Seoul, South Korea – The JTBC reality show Choi Kang Ya-gu (Strongest Baseball) has confirmed its fourth season following two dramatic walk-off victories.

In the 114th episode, aired on January 13th, the Monsterz team pulled off a stunning 7-5 win against Gyeongnam University, erasing a deficit in the bottom of the eighth inning. With this win, the Monsterz secured a playoff spot with a record of 21 wins and 6 losses, ensuring their return for another season.

The Monsterz faced numerous challenges throughout the game, including early offensive struggles, defensive miscues, and missed scoring opportunities. However, in the bottom of the eighth inning, with the bases loaded and two outs, veteran player Jeong Eui-yun delivered a clutch two-RBI single to tie the game.

A $30,000 Trophy

Prior to the game, the team had been motivated by the unveiling of a custom-made trophy, nicknamed the "Monster Cup," which was valued at 30 million won. The trophy, designed to resemble a professional baseball championship trophy, was introduced to boost the team's morale.

Overcoming Early Challenges

Gyeongnam University proved to be a formidable opponent, boasting a powerful lineup that had recently won a major college baseball tournament. The university team took an early lead against the Monsterz, capitalizing on the veteran team's mistakes.

However, the Monsterz refused to give up. Despite facing a three-run deficit in the top of the third inning, the team rallied in the bottom of the eighth, scoring four runs to take the lead. Veteran pitcher Nippert closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning, securing the victory.

A Testament to Experience

Although the Monsterz' performance was inconsistent throughout the game, their ability to capitalize on a single opportunity highlighted their experience and resilience. Key players, such as Jeong Eui-yun, Park Yong-taek, Jeong Geun-woo, and Lee Taek-kun, delivered clutch performances when it mattered most.

The team's back-to-back come-from-behind victories have provided a fitting end to the 2024 season. The Monsterz have proven that they can overcome adversity and achieve success, even when the odds are stacked against them.
