Governor Park Soo-hyun and Vice Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Kang Yoon-jin share project status and discuss strengthening cooperation

Chungcheongnam-do and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs held a meeting to further strengthen inter-agency cooperation to ensure the smooth establishment of the "National Hoegukwon in the Chungnam Region."

The province announced on the 12th that Governor Park Soo-hyun and Kang Yoon-jin, Vice Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, met at the Reception Room for External Guests at the Provincial Office to share the current status of the National Hoegukwon establishment project and discuss future directions for the project.

Chungnam is the only provincial-level local government in South Korea without a National Hoegukwon. This project aims to alleviate the inconvenience caused by long-distance burials for national meritorious persons and their bereaved families in the province, while establishing burial and memorial facilities to strengthen tributes to veterans and those eligible for veterans' benefits.

Currently, Buyeo-gun, Hongseong-gun, and Dangjin-si have submitted proposals to host the facility. Following a site selection evaluation, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs plans to announce the final results in November.

At the meeting, Governor Park stated, "I would like to thank the officials from the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs for their efforts toward hosting the National Hoegukwon, which has been a long-cherished aspiration of our province. Once the final candidate site is confirmed, the province will spare no effort in providing support and cooperation to ensure the project proceeds without a hitch."

In response, Vice Minister Kang said, "I appreciate the interest and efforts shown by Chungnam Province and each of the participating cities and counties for the National Hoegukwon establishment project. The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will also do its utmost to ensure that the evaluation is conducted based on fair criteria and transparent procedures."
