Seoul, South Korea – Samsung Electronics has officially launched the Galaxy Book5 Pro in the domestic market, marking a significant step forward in popularizing AI-powered personal computers. The company aims to captivate consumers with this new device, which boasts a range of cutting-edge features and powerful AI capabilities.

Unveiled at a launch event in Seoul, the Galaxy Book5 Pro is equipped with Samsung's proprietary "Galaxy AI" and Microsoft's "Copilot+ PC" for a seamless AI experience. Powered by the latest Intel Core Ultra processor series (codenamed Lunar Lake), the device offers up to 47 TOPS of neural processing unit (NPU) performance, enabling rapid and efficient AI computations. Additionally, the device boasts a long-lasting battery life of up to 25 hours, ensuring productivity on the go. Available in 14-inch and 16-inch models, Samsung has promised a competitive price point.

AI-Powered Features

A standout feature of the Galaxy Book5 Pro is the "AI Select" function, which allows users to search for information within images or text simply by drawing a circle around the desired content. This innovative feature leverages Samsung's AI capabilities to provide accurate and relevant search results, even identifying text within images.

Furthermore, the "Photo Remaster" feature utilizes AI upscaling technology to enhance the quality of old or low-resolution images. The device also supports "Live Caption," a Copilot+ feature that provides real-time captions for any audio played on the PC. Notably, most of these AI-powered features operate offline, ensuring a seamless user experience even without an internet connection.

Market Potential and Competition

Market research firm IDC projects a significant growth in the AI PC market, with a compound annual growth rate of 42% expected from 2024 to 2028. By 2027, AI PCs are projected to account for 60% of the overall PC market. However, the high cost of AI-powered devices and the lack of must-have "killer apps" have hindered widespread adoption thus far.

Samsung's entry into the AI PC market is expected to intensify competition with Apple, which has been steadily building its AI ecosystem with features like "Apple Intelligence." Samsung's vice president of the MX business, Lee Min-cheol, emphasized the company's commitment to staying competitive in the AI race.

Industry Outlook

Bak Nam-ki, vice president of Samsung business at Intel Korea, drew parallels between the current AI PC market and the early days of Wi-Fi-enabled laptops. He expressed confidence that the AI PC market would mature more rapidly than the Wi-Fi market did in the early 2000s.
