Ansan City to Revitalize Local Economy by Discovering "Unique Restaurants"

Ansan City has begun accepting recommendations for hidden local restaurants until June 10th. The "Ansan's Best Restaurants" selection project, which started in 2021, has successfully designated 125 restaurants to date, with the goal of stimulating the local economy and transforming excellent dining establishments into tourist attractions.

Recommendation Eligibility and Exclusions

This year's "Ansan's Best Restaurants" recommendations are limited to general restaurants that have been in operation for at least one year as of the announcement date (May 29, 2025), meaning those that completed their business registration before May 24, 2024. This reflects Ansan City's commitment to prioritize the discovery of establishments that have consistently offered quality taste and service for a long time and have been recognized by local residents.

However, not all food service establishments are eligible for recommendation. Franchise restaurants are excluded, as the policy focuses on selecting establishments with unique local flavors and characteristics. Additionally, establishments primarily selling coffee or alcoholic beverages are also excluded. Most importantly, any establishment that has received administrative disciplinary action for violations of the Food Sanitation Act or the Act on Origin Labeling of Agricultural and Fishery Products within the last two years (after May 29, 2023) will be automatically excluded from consideration. This demonstrates Ansan City's commitment to prioritizing hygiene and consumer trust in its restaurant selection process.

Fair Evaluation Process and Benefits

Ansan City employs a fair and systematic two-stage evaluation process for selecting "Ansan's Best Restaurants." The first stage involves a thorough document review to check for eligibility, including administrative disciplinary history. Establishments that pass this stage proceed to the second stage: on-site evaluation. The on-site evaluation comprehensively assesses various criteria such as excellence in taste and service, hygiene management, freshness of ingredients, and compliance with origin labeling. Ansan City plans to ultimately select 20 "Ansan's Best Restaurants" in August through this rigorous process.

Selected establishments will receive a variety of tangible benefits. First, they will be given an official "Ansan's Best Restaurants" signboard, enhancing their prestige and building trust with visitors. Furthermore, support for hygiene products will be provided to help these establishments further improve their hygiene management. Most importantly, marketing support will be offered. The selected restaurants are expected to significantly attract visitors through extensive promotion via various channels, including the Ansan City Hall website, social networking services (SNS), and a specially produced restaurant guide. These promotional activities will not only boost the establishments' sales but also play a crucial role in promoting Ansan as a city.

Synergistic Effects on Local Economic Revitalization

Ansan City's project to discover "unique restaurants" goes beyond simply selecting a few eateries. It aims to induce qualitative growth in the local food service industry and, furthermore, strengthen Ansan City's tourism competitiveness. The selection of these restaurants provides new culinary experiences for local residents and offers a significant motivation for external visitors to come to Ansan. In essence, it is a plan to create a synergistic effect that injects vitality into Ansan's local economy through "taste."

An official from Ansan City stated, "We will continue to devise and implement various measures to revitalize food service establishments," indicating that this restaurant selection project is not a one-time event but a continuous effort to develop the local food service industry. Ansan City's efforts are expected to play a crucial role in injecting new life into the stagnant local economy, instilling pride in citizens, and providing enjoyment to visitors. We anticipate that Ansan's hidden gems will be discovered through this opportunity and become beloved destinations for many.

How to Submit Recommendations:
Download and complete the recommendation form from the "Notices" section of the Ansan City Hall website. The deadline for submission is June 10, 2025.
