Apple AI that records calls is finally released...Korean starts next year

[GLOBAL ECONOMIC TIMES]  ‘Apple Intelligence’, an artificial intelligence (AI) service prepared by Apple, will be implemented in earnest on the 29th. In addition to AI functions such as message summary and photo editing, it also includes a call recording function that domestic users have been waiting for. However, only the English version has been distributed so far, and Korean will be supported starting next year.

Apple distributed iOS 18.1, the iPhone operating system (OS), which includes some features of Apple Intelligence, on the 28th (local time). It has been about four months since Apple Intelligence was first released last June.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 users will be able to use AI functions through iOS software updates. However, only English is available for now. Just set the voice assistant Siri and the device language to ‘American English’. Korean language support is scheduled to be available around April next year.

It is characterized by allowing the smartphone to be used like a ‘secretary in the hand’ through Apple Intelligence. Instead of having to check countless emails one by one, AI helps you check urgent emails such as ‘lunch schedule scheduled for today’ or ‘boarding pass for today’s flight’. Long emails are summarized.

When looking for old photos, you can search by simply describing the content, such as ‘A photo taken in front of a Christmas tree on a snowy day,’ and edit unwanted subjects. It also helps with writing. It changes the content written by the user into a style such as ‘professional’, ‘concise’, or ‘friendly’.

Voice assistant Siri's language understanding ability has improved with AI help. Even if the user stutters a little, they can still understand what is being said. It was also possible to understand the ‘context’ of the conversation. By understanding the relationship and context between multiple subsequent requests, you can pinpoint what the user wants. Through this, users can receive the answers they want with simple instructions such as ‘How to share the Wi-Fi password with a friend’.

Call recording is also possible. You can start ‘recording during calls’ in the phone application (app). However, the person on the other end of the call is notified of this fact. After the call is over, you can create a summary and review the key points.

In addition, Apple also launched the all-in-one desktop iMac equipped with the latest chip ‘M4’ on this day.

Smartphone manufacturers, including Apple, are trying to overcome sluggish sales by commercializing AI functions. Last January, Samsung Electronics introduced ‘Galaxy AI’. However, it is unclear whether Apple will be able to achieve notable performance improvement with Apple Intelligence. The Wall Street Journal analyzed, “Unlike AI servers, smartphones lack high-speed memory and packaging technology that enables fast data transmission, so their AI functions are limited.”

Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “We are pleased to be introducing for the first time the features of Apple Intelligence, a generative AI that only Apple can offer, that will enrich our lives.”
