Seoul Volunteer Center Launches Initiative to Combat Social Isolation and Reach Underserved Communities

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – The Seoul Volunteer Center (SVC) has announced a call for applications from non-profit organizations (NPOs) across Seoul to collaborate on a significant initiative aimed at identifying and supporting vulnerable residents who fall outside the traditional welfare safety net, while also addressing the growing issue of social isolation within the city. The program seeks to empower citizen-led volunteer efforts through established community organizations.

Under this new initiative, the SVC will select up to 10 NPOs to spearhead projects tailored to their specific expertise and the unique needs of their target communities. The selected organizations will be tasked with developing and implementing volunteer activities focused on crucial areas such as proactively identifying individuals in welfare blind spots – those who may not qualify for or have access to standard welfare programs – providing essential emotional support and companionship to combat loneliness, and engaging local residents in participatory campaigns to foster a stronger sense of community and mutual care.

The operational period for these vital projects will span from May to October 2025, allowing ample time for meaningful engagement and impact. In recognition of their commitment and contribution, the selected NPOs will receive financial support to facilitate their activities. Furthermore, participating organizations will be granted official activity certificates and will have the opportunity to share their experiences and outcomes at a dedicated outcome-sharing session organized by the SVC. Recognizing the diverse needs of the participating organizations, the SVC will also offer additional capacity-building training and resources as required, ensuring they are well-equipped to achieve their objectives.

Song Chang-hoon, Director of the Seoul Volunteer Center, emphasized the strategic importance of this collaborative endeavor. "By partnering with the invaluable network of non-profit organizations operating within Seoul, we aim to construct a sustainable and deeply rooted care network that can effectively reach individuals who are often overlooked," stated Director Song. "Our vision is to cultivate a warm and inclusive community where neighbors who may be experiencing loneliness can actively participate in volunteer activities, fostering a spirit of empathy and mutual support, ultimately creating a stronger social fabric for our city."

Interested non-profit organizations active within Seoul are encouraged to review the detailed application guidelines available on the Seoul Volunteer Center’s official website or to contact the SVC directly via telephone for further information. This initiative underscores the Seoul Metropolitan Government's commitment to strengthening social solidarity and ensuring that no resident is left feeling isolated or without support.
