Barranco, Peru – The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) has signed an agreement with the Municipality of Barranco to invest 4,854,097 soles (approximately $1.3 million USD) in projects aimed at strengthening tourist and resident safety, as well as improving access to the district's historic center.

The agreement, signed by Minister Desilú León and Barranco Mayor Jessica Vargas, will allocate funds to the purchase of 115 security cameras and the renovation of roads and sidewalks on four streets in the monumental zone of the district.

"These initiatives not only respond to the growing demand of visitors, but will allow us to register annual growth in tourist figures, in addition to contributing to Barranco being consolidated as an example of a sustainable and safe tourist destination," said Minister León.

Mayor Vargas highlighted that the streets to be improved will not only serve as access to the tourist attractions of the monumental zone, but will also connect these spaces with the eastern zone of that part of Metropolitan Lima.

"The four access roads to be intervened will unite Barranco much more and will help diversify the tourist offer of the area, because we have many 'huariques' (small local restaurants), gastronomic and artisan points in the eastern zone of the district. This will also boost the economic development of people who are starting businesses, for example," explained the mayor.

Project Details:

Security Cameras: More than 3 million soles of the total resources will be used to purchase smart security cameras that will be installed in different tourist spaces of the district and will be interconnected to the Monitoring Camera Center of the Municipality of Barranco.
Road and Sidewalk Renovation: More than 1.7 million soles will be allocated to the renovation of the roads and sidewalks of Felipe Pardo, Bregante, Ignacio Merino streets and the Jirón Colón, which serve as access to tourist attractions of the district, including the Church of San Francisco, the Municipal Park of Barranco and the funicular, this for visitors arriving along Bolognesi Avenue, where the Metropolitano buses circulate.
