Samcheok, Samcheok City in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province has virtually completed its preparations for the 60th Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Citizens' Sports Festival, which is set to open on June 12th. The city has largely finished renovating its sports venues and infrastructure, signaling its readiness to host the large-scale sporting event.

Extensive Preparations for a Comfortable and Safe Environment

This year's Provincial Citizens' Sports Festival is a large-scale athletic event that will feature approximately 12,000 athletes and officials across 43 sports, centered around the Samcheok Sports Complex. Samcheok City has put significant effort into creating a comfortable and safe competition environment by undertaking major renovations and supplementary construction on key facilities.

In particular, the main construction projects at the Samcheok Sports Complex have been completed without a hitch, bringing the preparations to a smooth conclusion. The warm-up track for athletics has seen the completion of its membrane structure installation and urethane elastic paving, providing athletes with an optimal environment for warming up in prime condition. Furthermore, polyurea resin waterproofing work has been completed on the exterior walls and spectator stands of the main stadium, significantly enhancing spectator safety and convenience.

Official Certification Secured for Athletics Track

The athletics track at the Samcheok Sports Complex has obtained Type 3 certification after undergoing inspection by the Korea Athletics Federation. This allows Samcheok City to host athletics events in an officially certified stadium, thereby increasing the reliability of the event's operation.

A city official stated, "The construction of the sports venues and auxiliary facilities, centered around the Samcheok Sports Complex, has been completed as planned. We will exert our utmost efforts until the very end to ensure a satisfying event for both participating athletes and spectators."

Meanwhile, the 60th Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Citizens' Sports Festival will take place over five days, from Thursday, June 12th, to Monday, June 16th, at the Samcheok Sports Complex and various sport-specific venues. The opening ceremony is scheduled for June 12th at 6:00 PM at the Samcheok Sports Complex, and the closing ceremony will be held on June 16th at 4:00 PM at the Samcheok Citizens' Gymnasium.
