Rosé Takes Center Stage in Madonna's Post Amidst Fashion Week Racism Row

BLACKPINK's global star Rosé has been spotlighted in a photo shared by pop icon Madonna, an image that prominently features Rosé in the center position, coming just days after the K-pop idol was allegedly subjected to racial discrimination at Paris Fashion Week. The controversy, which sparked international outrage, centered around images from the Saint Laurent Women's 2026 S/S Collection show.

The Photo That Speaks Volumes

On October 3rd (KST), Madonna posted a photo to her social media, which was taken at the Saint Laurent show she attended in Paris. The picture shows Rosé, dressed in white, smiling brightly and seated in a coveted center spot among high-profile celebrities, including members of Madonna's family, as well as singer Charli XCX, model Hailey Bieber, and actress Zoë Kravitz.

The timing and composition of the photo are significant, as they immediately follow a widely criticized series of incidents where Rosé, a global ambassador for Saint Laurent since 2020, was seemingly excluded.

Racism Allegations Fuel Outrage

The controversy began when British fashion magazine Elle UK posted photos from the Saint Laurent show on its official social media account. Fans were quick to notice that the magazine had cropped Rosé out of a group photo that included her, Bieber, Kravitz, and Charli XCX. Rosé's image was notably missing from several other posts by the magazine, despite her prominent role as an ambassador for the brand.

Adding fuel to the fire, both Charli XCX and Hailey Bieber—who were pictured next to Rosé—posted a photo to their own social media accounts where Rosé was either turned away from or appeared heavily shadowed or darkened, escalating accusations of intentional exclusion and racial insensitivity.

The backlash was immense, leading Elle UK to issue a public apology via its Instagram Story. The magazine stated, "We sincerely apologize for cropping BLACKPINK's Rosé out of the group photo in our recent Paris Fashion Week post. There was no intention to offend anyone," and confirmed the controversial post had been deleted. However, many fans were left unsatisfied, deeming the apology insufficient given the repeated instances of apparent sidelining.

A Global Icon's Poise

Rosé's immense global stature makes the alleged discriminatory treatment particularly jarring. She recently made history by becoming the first K-pop artist to win Song of the Year at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards for her solo hit 'APT.' (a collaboration with Bruno Mars), demonstrating her colossal influence in the international music scene.

Despite the escalating controversy surrounding her attendance, Rosé chose to respond with grace and professionalism. She posted photos from the show on her personal social media, tagging Saint Laurent Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello and writing, "Thank you for inviting me to another incredible show. Your work is so beautiful. Love you." Her decision to focus on the brand and art, rather than the controversy, was seen by fans as a display of immense poise.

The image shared by Madonna, placing the K-pop star firmly at the center, serves as a powerful visual counter-narrative, reaffirming Rosé’s status as a top-tier global celebrity and a powerful figure in both music and high fashion.
