According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) on May 23rd, these foreign content creators will visit various locations across South Korea, including Jeongeup, Busan, Gwangju and Suwon in Gyeonggi Province, Yeosu, and Pyeongchang. The overarching theme of their exploration is "Opening Korea's Treasures," aiming to foster a deep understanding of the sites before they produce their promotional content.

The itinerary is thoughtfully curated to provide a comprehensive cultural immersion. In Gwangju and Suwon, participants will delve into the historical significance of Namhansanseong Fortress and Hwaseong Fortress, both UNESCO World Heritage sites renowned for their architectural ingenuity and historical importance in defending the Joseon Dynasty.

Moving to Yeosu, the focus shifts to naval history and traditional Korean life. Creators will gain insights into the strategic brilliance of Admiral Yi Sun-sin and the pivotal naval battles of the Joseon Dynasty through the lens of his war diary, "Nanjung Ilgi" (War Diary of Admiral Yi Sun-sin), also a UNESCO Memory of the World Register item. Complementing this historical learning, they will also experience tidal flat ecology, offering a glimpse into Korea's unique coastal environment and traditional livelihoods.

The journey continues to Pyeongchang, where participants will engage in a Kimjang (kimchi-making) cultural experience. This immersive activity allows them to participate directly in a practice recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, highlighting the communal and celebratory aspects of Korean food culture. Furthermore, they will visit the Joseonwangjo Sillok Museum (Annals of the Joseon Dynasty Museum), providing access to the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, a comprehensive historical record and another UNESCO Memory of the World Register item. This visit will undoubtedly offer a profound understanding of Korea's dynastic past and the meticulous preservation of its history.

Bridging Cultures: Foreigners as Cultural Ambassadors

An official from the MCST emphasized the significance of this program, stating, "Even foreigners who have resided in Korea for a long time often do not have many opportunities to deeply learn about Korean history and culture." The ministry holds high expectations for the initiative, hoping that "through this event, they will directly experience Korea's precious cultural heritage and act as cultural ambassadors, promoting it to the world."

This initiative not only offers a unique educational opportunity for foreign residents but also recognizes their potential as authentic and engaging voices to share Korean heritage globally. By empowering them to create content based on their personal experiences, the MCST aims to foster a more nuanced and personal understanding of Korea's rich cultural tapestry beyond its borders. This approach leverages the power of firsthand experience and diverse perspectives to bridge cultural gaps and enhance global appreciation for Korea's invaluable contributions to humanity's shared heritage.
