Daejeon, South Korea – Daejeon Metropolitan City is leaving no stone unturned in its preparations for the highly anticipated 2025 0 O'Clock Festival, scheduled to illuminate the city from August 8th to 16th. In a proactive move to ensure the seamless execution of the large-scale event, the city held a commencement report meeting on May 2nd to finalize its comprehensive traffic control strategy.

The meeting underscored the city's commitment to prioritizing pedestrian safety and maintaining smooth vehicular flow amidst the festival's vibrant atmosphere. Central to the traffic management plan is the extensive implementation of car-free zones in key areas of the city center. Notably, a significant 1-kilometer stretch of Jungang-ro, connecting the bustling Daejeon Station to the historic former Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Office, will be transformed into a pedestrian haven for the duration of the festival. This pedestrian-centric approach aims to create a safe and enjoyable environment for the expected influx of visitors.

Furthermore, traffic restrictions will extend to a 400-meter section of Daejong-ro, spanning from the NC Department Store to the popular Euneungjeongi district, as well as Jungangro 121beon-gil and a portion of Taejeon-ro. These measures, effective for a 12-day period from August 6th to 17th, signify the city's dedication to accommodating the festival's activities while minimizing disruption to daily commutes.

To effectively manage the anticipated traffic diversions and ensure public safety, Daejeon City is committing significant human resources. An average of 409 trained traffic control personnel will be deployed daily across the affected areas. These personnel will be strategically positioned to guide traffic, assist pedestrians, and enforce the implemented regulations. Recognizing the importance of preventing jaywalking in high-traffic festival zones, the city also announced plans to significantly expand the installation of physical barriers and other anti-jaywalking infrastructure around the event perimeters.

Beyond on-the-ground management, the traffic control strategy incorporates adjustments to existing transportation networks. The operation of the Hasang Road, a key artery in the city, will be temporarily modified to accommodate festival-related traffic patterns. Moreover, the city is prioritizing clear and timely communication regarding bus route detours and the locations of temporary bus stops. Enhanced signage and public announcements will ensure that commuters and festival attendees alike are well-informed about alternative transportation arrangements.

Administrative Vice Mayor Yoo Deuk-won emphasized the critical nature of a robust traffic management plan, stating, "The Daejeon 0 O'Clock Festival has now evolved into a nationally recognized event, necessitating effective and well-thought-out traffic measures." He further assured that the city is committed to creating a "pleasant and safe festival environment" by actively incorporating feedback from citizens into the planning and execution of the traffic control strategy.

The proactive measures undertaken by Daejeon City reflect a growing understanding of the logistical complexities associated with hosting large-scale urban festivals. Effective traffic management is crucial not only for the safety and convenience of attendees but also for mitigating potential disruptions to the daily lives of city residents. By investing in personnel, infrastructure, and clear communication strategies, Daejeon aims to strike a balance between celebrating its vibrant culture and ensuring the smooth functioning of the city during this festive period. The early commencement of these preparations signals Daejeon's dedication to delivering a memorable and hassle-free experience for all who participate in the 2025 0 O'Clock Festival.
