Minnesota Democratic State Legislator Couple Shot Dead

On June 14, 2025, a shocking shooting incident in Minnesota, USA, resulted in the deaths of a Democratic state legislator and her husband, and injuries to another state senator. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz strongly condemned the incident, characterizing it as a "politically motivated targeted attack." The events unfolded in two separate incidents within approximately 90 minutes in the greater Minneapolis area, and the suspect is currently at large.

State Representative Melissa Hortman and Husband Killed

The victims of the shooting were Melissa Hortman, 55, a former Speaker and current member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, and her husband, Mark. They were murdered by an armed man at their home near Minneapolis. Governor Walz, visibly distraught, stated in a press conference, "Representative Hortman, a mother of two, is irreplaceable." She was highly regarded for her long service in the state legislature and significant contributions to the state's development. This incident has sent shockwaves through Minnesota's political circles and across the entire United States.

Senator John Hoffman and Wife Injured

The second shooting occurred on the same day at the home of State Senator John Hoffman. Senator Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were shot and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital. Governor Walz expressed "cautious optimism" regarding the Hoffmans' recovery. Their injuries further highlight the severity of the incident and heighten concerns about the safety of politicians.

Suspect Impersonated Police Officer to Gain Entry

Drew Evans, Superintendent of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, stated in a press conference that the suspect impersonated a police officer to gain entry into the victims' homes. "The suspect was driving a vehicle resembling a police car and gained trust by posing as an officer with a badge and uniform before entering the homes," added Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley. The suspect was even wearing a vest equipped with a taser and other gear. This method, exploiting the public's trust in law enforcement, has sparked even greater outrage.

Suspect at Large and Large-Scale Search Operation

Police have identified Vance Luther Boulder, a 57-year-old white male, as the suspect and are conducting a large-scale search operation. Boulder is described as 185 cm (6'1") tall and weighing 100 kg (220 lbs), with brown hair and brown eyes. According to police, the suspect engaged in a shootout with officers near Representative Hortman's home before escaping. Hundreds of police officers are currently involved in the pursuit, and local residents have been urged to exercise extreme caution. A "statement" containing a list of legislators was found in the suspect's vehicle, suggesting that the incident was a premeditated crime.

Suspected Political Motivation and Repercussions

Governor Walz unequivocally declared the incident to be "politically motivated targeted violence," referencing the relationship between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Kamala Harris, who was his running mate in the 2024 election. This suggests that the incident is more than just a violent crime; it could be interpreted as a reflection of the deepening political division and conflict within American society. President Donald Trump described the incident as "horrible," and Attorney General Pam Bondi also condemned the "horrific violence," emphasizing that those responsible would "face the full weight of the law."

This incident has caused significant repercussions within American political circles, raising awareness about the threats to politicians and the seriousness of political violence. Investigating authorities are fully committed to apprehending the suspect, and a thorough investigation into the precise motive and any potential masterminds behind the incident is expected. The impact of this tragic event on American society remains to be seen.
