LOS ANGELES – Disney's highly anticipated sequel, 'Zootopia 2,' is poised for an unprecedented holiday run, with box office analysts predicting a massive haul that cements its status as one of the year's biggest cinematic events.

The animated feature, which opened across 4,000 North American theaters on November 26, is tracking to earn an estimated $155 million over its first five days (through Sunday), making it the second-highest grossing film ever released during the Thanksgiving holiday frame.

Setting a New Benchmark for the Holidays

According to data from Box Office Mojo, 'Zootopia 2' collected $59.2 million in ticket sales during its first two days (Nov. 26–27) in North America. By adding a robust Black Friday total of $38.5 million, industry experts are now confidently forecasting the $155 million figure for its five-day domestic opening.

While this performance falls short of last year's record-holder, 'Moana 2' (which took in $225 million over five days in 2024), 'Zootopia 2' significantly outperforms other major holiday releases. It has easily surpassed both 'Frozen 2' ($125 million in 2019) and 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' ($109 million in 2013) over the equivalent five-day period.

Global and Chinese Market Triumph

The film's success is truly global. With $74 million already reported from international markets as of November 27, the movie's early worldwide cumulative gross reached $133.2 million. Projections suggest the film will add another $135 million to $145 million from overseas markets during its first full week, pushing its worldwide total well beyond the $250 million mark.

A particularly noteworthy success story is in China. Despite ongoing trade tensions and a cautious climate for Hollywood films, 'Zootopia 2' proved to be an overwhelming hit with Chinese audiences. The sequel amassed over $54 million in ticket revenue in just two days in China—a figure nearly matching its early North American performance. This strong showing makes 'Zootopia 2' one of the few post-pandemic Hollywood films to resonate powerfully with the Chinese box office, highlighting the global appeal of the franchise.

The film's performance signals a major victory for Disney, reaffirming the enduring commercial power of its animated franchises and setting a high bar for the remaining holiday movie season.
