JUNG WOOK KO, writer of 'Prickly Jae-seok' nominated for next year's Lindgren Award

JUNG WOOK KO, author of the 'Rough Jae-seok' series, was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA), a world-renowned international children's and youth literature award.

JUNG WOOK KO's agency, One Person, One Book, announced on the 1st that Korea's representative children's literature writer JUNG WOOK KO has been selected as a 2025 candidate for the world-renowned Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA). ALMA is the world's largest children's literature award established to promote children's and young adult literature. It was established in 2002 by the Swedish government to honor the late children's author Astrid Lindgren.

Author JUNG WOOK KO has written numerous best-sellers and has consistently published works that give hope and courage to Korean youth. In particular, he has resonated with readers from diverse backgrounds through stories and characters on the topic of disability, and his writings provide inspiration and challenge to children and youth in this country so that readers can overcome their own limitations and take on challenges. It provides spirit.

Kim Jun-ho, CEO of 1 Person 1 Book, said, “The late author gives hundreds of lectures a year on topics such as ‘Education to Improve Disability Awareness’ and ‘Meeting with the Author’ for children and teenagers,” adding, “A world we live in together.” “It is the life goal pursued by writer JUNG WOOK KO and his values,” he said.

By being nominated for ALMA, author Go Jeong-wook is evaluated to have made a significant contribution to raising the international reputation of children's literature and the status of Korean literature. Commenting on this nomination, writer JUNG WOOK KO said, “I would like to express my deep gratitude to the readers who have shown continued love and support for children and teenagers,” and added, “We will continue to deliver stories that will give readers courage and hope.”

The ALMA winners will be announced in Sweden in April 2025, and great interest is expected from the literary community and readers around the world.

Regarding being selected as a candidate, author Goh said, "I would like to express my deep gratitude to the readers who have shown continued love and support for children and teenagers," and added, "I will continue to deliver stories that will give readers courage and hope."
