Heavy Rain and Sizzling Heat Hit Taiwan, Weather Advisories Issued Across the Island

On July 27, 2025, Taiwan is experiencing volatile weather conditions as it falls under the influence of a low-pressure system. At 6:20 AM today, the Central Weather Administration issued a heavy rain advisory for Pingtung County and torrential rain advisories for the mountainous areas of Lienchiang, Kaohsiung, Tainan, and Chiayi counties, urging citizens to take special precautions.

For the rest of the day, western Taiwan is expected to see unexpected localized showers and thunderstorms, while eastern Taiwan will be mostly cloudy. The weather is predicted to become even more unstable in the afternoon. Localized showers and thunderstorms are forecasted across various regions in the afternoon, with the intensity of the rain increasing and the coverage expanding, especially in the central and southern regions, starting in the evening. There is a high possibility of short-duration, concentrated downpours or localized torrential rain in the central and southern regions, as well as northern mountainous areas. Residents are advised to prepare for potential landslides and flooding.

In addition to the rain, sweltering heat is also taking hold. Today's daytime high temperatures are expected to be between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius across the island. Some parts of Taipei may see temperatures soar to 36 degrees Celsius, potentially leading to a heat warning. Citizens are advised to carry an umbrella and prepare for the heat when going outside. The minimum temperature is forecasted to be between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius, indicating that the heat will persist through the night.

The weekly forecast also remains unstable. Tomorrow, Monday, July 28, showers and thunderstorms are expected in the central, southern, and northern regions due to the low-pressure system. From Tuesday, July 29, the low-pressure system, combined with the influx of southwesterly winds, will further increase humidity. As a result, showers and thunderstorms will continue in the southern region, and the central region will not be spared from localized showers and thunderstorms.

During this period, there is a high chance of heavy or localized torrential rain in the mountainous areas of the southern and central regions, and localized heavy rain in the central region, requiring close monitoring of the weather situation. Temperatures are expected to fluctuate between 26 and 33 degrees Celsius, with humid heat persisting. Given the continued volatile weather, citizens should always check the latest weather information and take safety precautions before heading out.
