Tesa, a German adhesive tape technology specialist, has laid the cornerstone for future adhesive solution development by officially opening its state-of-the-art 'Debonding-on-Demand' lab in Singapore. This new Singapore lab will serve as a permanent hub in Tesa's global technology network, accelerating the development and commercialization of customized detachable adhesive solutions, particularly for automotive and electronics industry customers.

Strategic Collaboration and Singapore's Role

Through a strategic partnership with A*Star (Agency for Science, Technology and Research), Singapore's leading public research and development agency, Tesa will combine research expertise with industrial networks to develop solutions that are immediately applicable to the market. This collaboration is expected to foster the development of new Debonding-on-Demand adhesive technologies and strengthen Singapore's position as an advanced manufacturing and innovation hub in the circular economy.

Tesa's decision to choose Singapore as a strategic development hub was largely influenced by the presence of Tesa's Asia-Pacific headquarters in the region and Singapore's reputation as an innovation-driven nation. Proximity to Nanyang Technological University and the potential for collaboration with A*Star were also significant determining factors. The opening of this lab further strengthens Tesa's presence in the Asia-Pacific region, in addition to existing locations in Vietnam, Thailand, and India.

Innovation for Sustainability

Norman Goldberg, CEO of Tesa, emphasized, "Tesa goes beyond mere innovation. Our Debonding-on-Demand technology will provide true added value by offering strong, long-lasting adhesion while being easily detachable when needed. This groundbreaking technology will fundamentally change how products are repaired, recycled, and reused. We are contributing to reducing industrial waste and promoting a circular economy without compromising performance."

Tesa's innovative technology meets the current demand from customers for repairable and recyclable products and components. Ingrid Sebald, CTO of Tesa, added, "Our Debonding-on-Demand technology will enable a completely new approach to product design. Sustainability will be integrated as an essential component from the outset in new applications and system solutions, offering new perspectives for entire industries in terms of production and lifecycle management."

Concrete Plans for the Future

The Debonding-on-Demand lab began operations on July 1, 2025, with a team of experts, engineers, and technicians, with plans for phased expansion of its workforce. The lab's goal is to develop new solutions and further improve existing Debonding-on-Demand concepts. Tesa and A*Star will use standardized procedures to test up to 20 new concepts based on performance and applicability. Promising solutions will be further developed and applied to meet customer requirements. Through this Singapore lab, Tesa is expected to drive continuous innovation in adhesive technology and play a key role in a sustainable future in the global market.
