Government Launches Senior Welfare Expansion... Begins Payment of 'Adult Senior Program' Pension

The government has initiated its senior welfare expansion policy, starting the payment of the 'Programa Adultos Mayores' (Adult Senior Program) pension. The payments, which began on September 22, aim to provide benefits primarily to the elderly, including retired military personnel and existing pensioners. The Ministry of Social Development plans to gradually expand the program to eventually benefit all seniors aged 65 and over.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, this payment marks the beginning of the public sector's overall salary payment schedule, not just for pensioners. A particularly notable aspect is the enactment of the 'Universal Adult Senior Pension Law.' This law automatically grants pension eligibility to individuals from the age of 65 without the need for a separate application process, with monthly payments made sequentially, starting with the oldest recipients. On August 22, an additional 6,100 seniors aged 72 were newly enrolled, and this is being hailed as a move that has enhanced the effectiveness of the senior welfare policy.

This policy demonstrates the government's proactive efforts to improve the economic stability and quality of life for the elderly as the country enters an aging society. The government plans to continue expanding the senior welfare budget and improving related systems to help all seniors live a stable life in their later years.

The public sector salary payment schedule for this week is as follows: on Tuesday, the 23rd, payments will be made to retirees from the financial fund; on Wednesday, the 24th, administrative civil servants and employees of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare will receive their salaries. This will be followed by payments on Thursday, the 25th, to public security forces, the judiciary, and local government employees. On Friday, the 26th, employees of the Ministry of Education and national universities will be paid, and finally, on Tuesday, the 30th, payments will be made to those in the private service sector who have not yet received them. By staggering payments by sector, the government is aiming to ensure stable financial management.

Senior citizens' organizations have expressed their welcome for this policy. A senior welfare expert stated, "This pension expansion will be of great help to the lives of the elderly," and expressed hope that "the system will be established so that more seniors can receive benefits in the future." The government is expected to build a successful model for senior welfare policy through this payment, and furthermore, contribute to the sustainable development of society as a whole.

This policy is anticipated to be the first step in a comprehensive welfare plan that goes beyond simply providing cash payments. It is expected to support seniors in maintaining their dignity and actively participating as members of society. All eyes are now on how the government's senior welfare policies will evolve.
