30 GIST professors named to the list of ‘World’s Top 2% Researchers’

[GLOBAL ECONOMIC TIMES]  30 professors at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) were selected as among the top 2% of researchers in the world based on paper citations. Among them, 11 were included in the top 1% of researchers in the world.

GIST announced on the 30th that 30 professors, or 15.7% of its 191 full-time faculty members, were ranked among the top 2% of researchers in the world. Elsevier, a global academic information analysis company headquartered in the Netherlands, selects and announces the world's top 2% of researchers every year. Citations of academic papers from 1960 to 2023, h-index (research achievements and achievements of individual researchers, The selection is made through a complex analysis of influence (impact), number of citations according to author role, etc.

GIST professors ranked in the top 1% in the world include Lim Chun-taek of the Graduate School of Energy Convergence, Hyo-seong Ahn of the Department of Mechanical and Robotic Engineering, Yong-cheol Kim of the Department of Life Sciences, Chang-wook Ahn of the Graduate School of AI, Jae-young Lee of the Department of Environmental and Energy Engineering, Dong-yu Kim of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, In-soo Kim of the Department of Environmental and Energy Engineering, and Professor Byeong-seung Ham of the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering. There are 11 people.

Professor Lim, who ranked in the world's top 0.38% in the field of electrical and electronic engineering, said, “GIST's strength is the academic culture that prioritizes the university's resources and capabilities to focus on research.”

GIST, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, has grown into a world-class research-oriented university, producing 8,178 outstanding talents in science and engineering, ranking 5th in the world in the number of paper citations per faculty member in the QS World University Rankings, and 1st in Korea for 16 consecutive years. .

GIST President Lim Ki-cheol said, “I believe that our efforts to create an optimal research environment have paid off,” and added, “We will be reborn as a prestigious science and engineering specialized university by giving preference to faculty with excellent research capabilities and inviting world-class scholars.”
