ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay – The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has achieved a remarkable feat by awarding its only Spanish-language 'Fundamental Gymnastics' international course of the year to the Paraguayan Gymnastics Federation (FPG). This historic event underscores the steady growth of Paraguayan gymnastics and is expected to serve as a crucial stepping stone for Paraguay to establish itself as a key base for gymnastics training and development in the Latin American region.

In an interview with Paraguayan TV program 'Tribuna', Paula Espínola, President of the Paraguayan Gymnastics Federation, emphasized the significance of hosting this international course, stating, "This course is the first step of the FIG Academy, providing coaches with internationally recognized certifications that will allow them to work as gymnastics coaches anywhere in the world."

Scheduled to begin the week of April 21st, the course will feature international experts as instructors and is aimed at gymnastics coaches. Notably, thanks to the proactive efforts of the Paraguayan Gymnastics Federation, additional slots have been secured for local participants, offering more Paraguayan coaches the opportunity for high-level technical training.

Spearheading South American Gymnastics Development… Intensifying Efforts to Host International Competitions and Nurture Athletes

The FIG's decision to award this international course reflects its high regard for the remarkable progress and excellent infrastructure of Paraguayan gymnastics. Since the 2022 South American Games in Asunción, the Paraguayan gymnastics arena has been recognized as one of the most modern facilities in South America, consistently hosting top-tier international competitions.

The Paraguayan Gymnastics Federation is also accelerating its preparations for the Pan American Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships to be held in May. This event will serve as a qualifier for the Rio de Janeiro World Championships and the Central American Games, featuring competitions for both junior and senior categories.

Adding to the positive momentum, Paraguayan gymnastics has celebrated the qualification of three athletes for the Junior Pan American Games in August. The talented Ana Mendieta will represent Paraguay in both women's artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, and Paraguay will also field teams in the individual and group junior categories.

Multifaceted Efforts to Train Judges and Develop National Athletes… Investing in the Future

Paraguay has achieved a historic milestone by producing its first three international rhythmic gymnastics judges. Furthermore, in line with new international scoring regulations, a national training program is being implemented to enable more professionals to obtain or renew their FIG judging certifications.

President Espínola emphasized that technical development and education are key priorities for the current administration, stating, "We are focusing on strengthening the foundations by training coaches and judges. This will lead to the development of better Paraguayan national team athletes and greater achievements in the future."

She also added that gymnastics is an important sport that cultivates motor skills, coordination, and discipline from a young age, skills that are beneficial for all athletes.

Pursuing Inclusive Growth and Continuous Development… An Emerging Force to Watch in International Gymnastics

Paraguay is strongly promoting inclusive growth through close collaboration with Special Olympics. National team coaches actively support the training of athletes with disabilities, who have already achieved remarkable success by winning numerous medals in international competitions.

The Paraguayan Gymnastics Federation, in cooperation with the National Sports Secretariat (SND), operates free sports schools, offering a variety of classes from beginner to advanced levels, Monday through Saturday, continuously expanding grassroots participation.

President Espínola emphasized, "Often, the biggest cost to access training is transportation. By hosting the international course, we have eliminated this barrier for our coaches. This opportunity will not only improve the technical level in the country but also lay the groundwork for future medals and achievements."

Through these efforts, Paraguay is solidifying its position in the international gymnastics community and, with a strong, inclusive, and professional foundation, is steadily advancing towards its goal of continental growth.
