Cheonan, South Korea - Cheonan Central Library (Director Moon Hyun-joo) announced on April 22nd a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Hope Foundation (풀뿌리희망재단) to jointly promote and expand citizen engagement in climate change response initiatives.

This collaborative agreement is underpinned by the Hope Foundation's "Climate 1.5 Fund" (기후 1.5기금), the first community foundation fund of its kind in South Korea dedicated to addressing the urgent challenges of climate change. The MOU formalizes a robust partnership between the two organizations, paving the way for the systematic development and implementation of impactful programs.

Under the terms of the agreement, Cheonan Central Library and the Hope Foundation have committed to mutual cooperation across a range of activities, including:

Joint Planning of Citizen Participation Programs for Climate Crisis Response: Leveraging their respective strengths and resources, the two entities will co-design innovative programs aimed at raising awareness, fostering understanding, and encouraging active participation among Cheonan citizens in tackling climate change. This will likely involve workshops, lectures, exhibitions, and community-based projects.
Business Development and Information Exchange: The partnership will facilitate the sharing of knowledge, best practices, and relevant information related to climate change and sustainable development. This collaborative approach will enhance the effectiveness of their individual and joint initiatives, leading to the identification and development of new impactful projects.
Promotion of Other Cooperative Projects: Recognizing the multifaceted nature of climate action, the MOU leaves room for the exploration and implementation of additional collaborative endeavors that align with their shared goals. This could encompass advocacy campaigns, resource mobilization efforts, and the establishment of networks with other relevant stakeholders in the region.
Cheonan Central Library has expressed its unwavering commitment to expanding its role as a vital community hub that actively addresses the needs and concerns of its citizens. By forging strategic partnerships with organizations like the Hope Foundation, the library aims to connect citizens with crucial information and empower them to become agents of positive change in their communities.

Director Moon Hyun-joo emphasized the critical importance of collective action in addressing the climate crisis, stating, "Responding to the climate crisis is a significant task that must be undertaken in collaboration with our citizens. Through this partnership with the Hope Foundation, we aim to cultivate a sustainable climate action culture within our local community."

The Hope Foundation, renowned for its grassroots approach to community development and social impact, brings valuable expertise and resources to this collaboration. Their "Climate 1.5 Fund" signifies a strong commitment to supporting local initiatives that contribute to mitigating climate change and building a more resilient future.

This partnership between Cheonan Central Library and the Hope Foundation serves as a commendable model for how local institutions can collaborate to address pressing global issues at the community level. By empowering citizens with knowledge and opportunities for engagement, they are taking concrete steps towards building a more sustainable and climate-resilient Cheonan. The initiatives stemming from this MOU are expected to significantly contribute to raising climate awareness and fostering a sense of shared responsibility among the city's residents.
