Taiwan Supports 64 Paraguayan Students with Scholarships, Strengthening Educational Cooperation

The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Paraguay announced on June 17 that it has awarded scholarships to 64 young Paraguayans to pursue undergraduate, graduate, and Mandarin language programs at prestigious Taiwanese universities. This scholarship initiative is expected to serve as a significant opportunity to strengthen educational cooperation and expand human exchanges between the two countries.

This scholarship program is part of Taiwan's broader educational cooperation efforts, conducted with the support of the Paraguayan Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Carlos Antonio López National Scholarship Program (Becal), the National Institute of Public Administration (Inapp) of Paraguay, and the Ministry of Education and Sciences (MEC). This demonstrates Taiwan's commitment to assisting Paraguay in nurturing talent and providing international educational opportunities for young leaders who will guide the future of society.

The scholarships are divided into three types: 50 scholarships from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA-Taiwan), 7 from the International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF), and 7 from the Ministry of Education's Huayu (Mandarin) program. Specifically, MOFA scholarships widely support undergraduate and graduate programs, while Taiwan ICDF scholarships primarily focus on training specialists in specific fields for sustainable development in developing countries. The Huayu scholarships emphasize Mandarin language training to enhance understanding of Taiwanese culture and language.

The selected students will receive top-tier education in fields where Taiwan excels, including Information and Communications Technology (ICT), semiconductor engineering, biotechnology, precision medicine, smart agriculture, environmental science, and public administration. Taiwan is recognized globally for its educational competitiveness, particularly in technology, healthcare, and public administration. This is expected to provide a foundation for Paraguayan students to acquire advanced knowledge and skills, enabling them to contribute to their nation's development upon their return.

This scholarship award goes beyond simply providing educational opportunities; it further solidifies the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries. An official from the Taiwanese Embassy stated, "Through these scholarships, we hope that young Paraguayans will experience Taiwan's excellent education system and contribute to promoting mutual understanding and cooperation between our two nations." Since 1991, over 820 Paraguayan students have had the opportunity to study abroad through Taiwan's scholarship programs, playing a crucial role in strengthening bilateral ties. These alumni are actively contributing in various sectors in Paraguay, serving as bridges for exchange with Taiwan.

The Taiwanese government plans to continue supporting human resource development in Paraguay through this scholarship program and fulfill its responsible role in the international community. Furthermore, by providing Paraguayan students with a platform to broaden their international perspectives and grow into global talents, this initiative is expected to make significant contributions to the future development of relations between the two countries. It is hoped that these scholarship recipients will successfully complete their studies in Taiwan and become excellent talents who contribute to Paraguayan society.
