A Cultural Exchange Hub Based on K-Content for Both Koreans and Foreigners… Contributing to Hallyu Spread and Multicultural Coexistence

2 Million Won in Prizes and Various Gifts Awarded… Customized Majors for International Students to Be Established in 2026 Academic Year

Donggang University is actively leading the creation of a healthy multicultural society and the nurturing of future global talent through a global cultural festival that actively utilizes Hallyu content. The university announced on the 11th that it will host the '2nd K-Culture Festival' on June 15 at 2:00 PM in the Nightingale Hall on the 5th floor of the main building.

This event holds significant meaning as it is an unprecedented K-content-based cultural exchange event for a regional university, involving both foreigners and Koreans. Beyond a mere entertainment-oriented festival, it is expected to contribute to broadening cultural understanding by simultaneously pursuing two core goals: the spread of Hallyu and multicultural coexistence. It is anticipated to become a forum for communication where participants of diverse nationalities gather to share and communicate Korean culture, thereby enhancing mutual understanding.

The festival will be divided into two main categories. First, in the 'K-POP Contest' with a theme, participants will perform two songs in total: one 'Hallyu song' and one free choice song. This is expected to be a stage where the energy of Korean popular culture can be felt. Second, the 'K-Hangul Contest' with a theme will be a time for participants to deeply exchange language and culture through presentations of less than 3 minutes on the theme of their own culture and Korean culture. Twenty-eight teams (14 teams from each category) that passed the preliminary rounds will compete intensely in the main competition.

This year's competition will see participation from international students of various nationalities, including Vietnam, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Cameroon, and Russia, extending beyond Asia to Africa and Europe, showcasing its global festival aspect. This is evaluated as the fruit of Donggang University's efforts toward internationalization and multicultural inclusion policies.

The event will kick off at 1:30 PM with a variety of pre-show performances, including Taekwondo demonstrations, traditional dances, Nanta performances, magic, and shuffle dance, elevating the festive atmosphere. Winners in each category will receive up to 2 million won in prize money, along with abundant prizes such as laptops, tablet PCs, and robot vacuum cleaners.

Han Man-min, head of Donggang University's Future Lifelong Education Center, stated, "We will focus on spreading a culture of multicultural understanding and mutual respect through K-culture as a medium." He added, "Through this, we will nurture competitive global talent and fulfill our responsibility as a university contributing to the local community." Donggang University has expressed its commitment to playing a leading role in building a healthy multicultural society by providing an opportunity for Korean and international students to understand and respect each other's cultures through this festival.

Meanwhile, Donggang University is also pushing forward with mid-to-long-term support plans for international students in line with changes in multicultural society. Starting next year, it plans to offer free courses for international students to acquire Korean nationality, helping them settle stably in Korean society. In the 2026 academic year, it intends to establish customized majors for international students, such as Global Business, AI Future Automotive, and Global Korean Language, to accelerate the cultivation of global-competitive talent. This is interpreted as part of the efforts by domestic universities, facing a decrease in student population, to seek new avenues and strengthen their international capabilities by attracting and educating international students.
