BUSAN, South Korea – The Yeongdo Police Station in Busan has demonstrated its commitment to fostering an inclusive community by awarding scholarships totaling ₩2.7 million to nine multicultural students. The initiative, a collaborative effort between the police and local private organizations, aims to support the academic pursuits and emotional well-being of these young individuals.

The scholarship ceremony took place on June 18, 2025, following a regular meeting of the Foreign Affairs Advisory Council, which also included a discussion session with immigrant women. The nine recipients, ranging from elementary to high school students residing in the Yeongdo district, were selected based on their academic potential and need. This program underscores the police station's dedication to ensuring that multicultural youth are not marginalized but are instead empowered to become integral members of society.

The partnership between the Yeongdo Police Station and various private entities is a testament to the growing recognition of the importance of civil-private cooperation in addressing social needs. These collaborative projects are crucial in providing tailored support for multicultural families as they navigate life in South Korea, helping them settle and thrive within their communities.

In recent years, South Korea has seen a significant increase in its multicultural population, leading to a greater emphasis on policies and programs designed to facilitate their integration. Police forces nationwide, including the Yeongdo Police Station, are increasingly involved in community outreach beyond traditional law enforcement, recognizing their role in social welfare and stability. Their efforts extend to providing essential resources, offering guidance, and acting as a bridge between multicultural residents and broader society.

Chief Jang Jong-geun of the Yeongdo Police Station reiterated the station's ongoing commitment. "We will continue to provide unwavering attention and support to ensure that multicultural youth are not marginalized but can confidently grow as proud members of our community," Chief Jang stated. This long-term commitment includes plans for continued cooperation with private organizations to further assist multicultural families in their settlement and integration into local society. The initiative serves as a model for community-based support, highlighting the proactive role law enforcement can play in promoting social harmony and equitable opportunities for all residents.
