Korea East-West Power and Ulsan Buk-gu Family Center Enhance Living Conditions for Multicultural Families

ULSAN — Korea East-West Power (EWP) has collaborated with the Ulsan Buk-gu Family Center to significantly improve the living environment of a vulnerable multicultural family in Ulsan's Buk-gu district. This initiative is part of EWP's flagship social contribution program, "Shinbakhan Energy Arrangement" (meaning "Novel Energy Cleanup"), which has been actively enhancing energy efficiency for underprivileged households and welfare facilities since its inception in 2021.

The recipient family, identified by the Ulsan Buk-gu Family Center through its "On-Gajok Bodeum Saeop" (All-Family Care Project), had previously endured severe energy consumption and health challenges due to inadequate insulation and lighting in their residence. The "On-Gajok Bodeum Saeop" is dedicated to identifying and supporting complex crisis families, offering a range of family services including counseling, education, and cultural programs to foster stable family life and aid the early adaptation of multicultural families in Korean society.

Through this latest "Shinbakhan Energy Arrangement No. 26" project, a comprehensive energy-efficient remodeling was completed, amounting to approximately 8.5 million won (approximately $6,100 USD). This substantial upgrade included the replacement of outdated windows, extensive insulation work, and the installation of energy-saving LED lighting. The improvements are expected to provide the family with a comfortable and stable living environment, particularly beneficial as the summer months approach, while also leading to significant reductions in energy costs and an overall enhancement in their quality of life. The project notably involved direct participation from EWP employees and local citizens, underscoring a communal effort.

Moon Hwa-jung, Director of the Ulsan Buk-gu Family Center, emphasized the profound impact of the project, stating, "This initiative transcends mere environmental improvement; it has brought practical, tangible change to a family's daily life." She affirmed the center's unwavering commitment to ensuring that complex crisis and multicultural families within the region receive continuous and comprehensive support.

An official from Korea East-West Power reiterated the company's dedication to social responsibility. "The 'Shinbakhan Energy Arrangement' project represents our concrete efforts to eliminate blind spots in energy welfare and contribute to carbon neutrality," the official stated. EWP, known for its social contribution endeavors guided by the slogan 'Loving hand and hopeful light' and supported by its Social Voluntary Service Corps established in 2004, pledges to continue diverse community engagement and support initiatives for energy-vulnerable populations in collaboration with local communities.

This concerted effort by EWP and the Ulsan Buk-gu Family Center exemplifies a proactive approach to social welfare, delivering not only material improvements but also a renewed sense of hope and stability to families in need.
