Cheonan, South Korea – Cheonan City has announced the completion of the "Seungcheon Melon Path"  bicycle route, marking significant progress in its "Cheonan-style 300-ri Bicycle Trail" project. The newly inaugurated 11.8-kilometer path, stretching from Balsan-ri in Susein-myeon to Singye-ri in Mokcheon-eup within Dongnam-gu, was constructed with a total investment of 1.8 billion KRW, including 500 million KRW in special government grants and 1.3 billion KRW in city funds. Notably, the Seungcheon Melon Path has been designated as a new route for the national cross-country bicycle trail by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in 2023.

The "Cheonan-style 300-ri Bicycle Trail" aims to establish a comprehensive cycling network connecting the Seoul metropolitan area and the Chungcheong region, ultimately forming part of the national cross-country bicycle route. Of the planned 121 kilometers, 105 kilometers have now been completed, representing an 87% completion rate. The entire 300-ri (approximately 117.6 kilometers) network is expected to be finalized with the completion of the 16.8-kilometer "Pungseocheon Walnut Path"  slated for development next year.

The bicycle trail is thoughtfully designed to follow Cheonan's main rivers, showcasing local specialties and natural landscapes. Each section of the route reflects the unique character of Cheonan and the seasonal beauty of the region. The entire loop commences at Seongseong Lake Park and meanders through various themed paths, including the Seonghwancheon Reed Path, the Ipjangcheon Grape Path, the Busomun-gil Path, the Buk-myeon Cherry Blossom Path, the Byeongcheoncheon Cucumber Path, the newly opened Seungcheon Melon Path, and the Independence Hall Path.

To ensure ease of navigation, the bicycle paths are clearly marked with bicycle signage and blue guide lines, making them accessible to both residents and visitors.

Mayor Park Sang-don stated, "We are building a bicycle transportation network that connects the city's bicycle trails with the national cross-country bicycle routes, providing accessibility from anywhere in the country. We will strive to make Cheonan, a hub of transportation, a leading city for bicycle transit."

Prior to the official opening, Mayor Park Sang-don visited the Seungcheon Melon Path construction site on March 26th to inspect the facilities and instructed officials to install additional bicycle lane markings and signage for enhanced user convenience and safety. The completion of the Seungcheon Melon Path signifies a crucial step towards realizing Cheonan's vision of becoming a prominent destination for cycling enthusiasts.
