CHUNGBUK — In a major step toward strengthening regional industrial competitiveness, Chungbuk Province and the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on October 23 at the Chungbuk Provincial Government Office.

The agreement aims to establish a robust cooperative framework to accelerate investment attraction from advanced European enterprises and foster closer economic ties between the province and European corporate networks.

ECCK, a prominent non-profit economic organization founded to promote commercial and economic cooperation between South Korea and Europe, currently represents approximately 350 European member companies operating within the country.

Driving Industrial Innovation and "Chungbuk Transformation"

Aligning with the 9th popularly elected provincial administration’s core vision of a "Pragmatic Chungbuk for Livelihood and Transformation," the province recognizes the critical need to infuse advanced technologies and innovative corporate cultures into its local industries. Partnering with South Korea’s leading European business association is a cornerstone strategy to achieve this goal seamlessly.

The MOU signing ceremony was attended by Chungbuk Governor Shin Yong-han and ECCK Secretary-General Stefan Ernst. Under the new agreement, both organizations will collaborate closely in several key areas:

Supporting Chungbuk Province’s economic cooperation and investment-attracting initiatives within Europe.
Participating in ECCK-hosted seminars, networking events, and major programs.
Facilitating active information exchange between the province and ECCK.
Pursuing any other mutually beneficial cooperative ventures deemed necessary by both parties.

Strengthening Mutual Ties Through On-Site Inspections

"This collaboration holds profound significance as it allows European companies to closely experience Chungbuk’s exceptional industrial infrastructure and prime investment environment," stated ECCK Secretary-General Stefan Ernst. "We will actively support broadening communication channels between our member companies and Chungbuk Province to drive substantive investments and partnerships."

Governor Shin Yong-han expressed high expectations for the partnership, noting, "This agreement will serve as a reliable bridge expanding European corporate investments in Chungbuk. We will spare no effort in providing proactive administrative support to ensure foreign businesses can operate with absolute confidence in our region."

Prior to the signing ceremony, the ECCK delegation toured key industrial hubs, including the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (Osong Medical Innovation Foundation / K-Bio Health) and the Osong Cosmetics Beauty Expo. They also visited a foreign-invested enterprise in Jincheon to inspect production facilities and exchange insights with corporate representatives. These field visits significantly enhanced the delegation's understanding of Chungbuk's cutting-edge industrial foundations, particularly in bio-health, beauty, and semiconductors.

Building on this momentum, Chungbuk Province plans to leverage ECCK’s extensive European corporate network and intelligence database to proactively identify European investment demands and execute tailored, high-impact investment attraction strategies.
