The doctor who came to Busan to attend a conference held at BEXCO was from Jakarta. We had a long conversation with this couple. Just like everywhere else in the world, the leading causes of death in Indonesia are heart attacks, strokes, and cancer, in that order. People often expect cancer to have the highest mortality rate, but in reality, cancer has a lower mortality rate than heart attacks or strokes.
In the past, there were many deaths from malaria in Indonesia. However, malaria has reportedly disappeared recently from the islands of Java, Sumatra, and Bali. Nevertheless, malaria still exists in eastern Indonesia and the islands in the Pacific toward Papua New Guinea. They also mentioned that vaccinations are necessary when visiting those regions.
