- Sejong City’s First Conflict Management Case Advances to the Finals of the Government Innovation King of Kings Hosted by the Ministry of Interior and Safety

Recommendations and comment cheers are available on 'Sotong Innovation 24' from October 19 to October 28

Sejong City's innovative case of resolving chronic illegal parking and stopping issues through communication with residents has advanced to the finals of the 2026 Government Innovation King of Kings, hosted by the Ministry of Interior and Safety.

The Transportation Policy Division's case, titled "Illegal Traffic Safety Facilities: Resolving Conflicts Through Participation and Communication Rather Than Demolition," was recognized for successfully resolving conflicts between local residents and business owners and improving on-site conditions.

Previously, the area near the single-family housing complex in Hansol-dong suffered from conflicts between residents and merchants due to illegal parking by visitors to local commercial districts. This tension escalated to the point where residents installed lane-control bollards at their own personal expense.

Instead of ordering a blanket demolition, the city actively listened to the opinions of both residents and the merchant association to mediate the conflict. Following joint on-site inspections with relevant agencies, the city decided to officially convert and manage the resident-installed bollards as public traffic safety facilities through a resident donation-acceptance method.

This approach successfully broke away from standard administrative responses—which typically involve simply dismantling unauthorized facilities and issuing penalties—by addressing underlying conflicts through on-site communication and resolving long-standing, recurring civil complaints.

The finalist innovation case can be viewed online through the 'Sotong Innovation 24' website (www.sotong.go.kr) under its online policy communication section from October 19 through October 28.

The results of the online policy communication evaluation will be combined with preliminary scores, and the top 13 cases out of the 41 finalists will advance to the final competition stage.

Because evaluation criteria factor in video view counts, recommendation (like) counts, and active communication and responses to public comments, citizen interest and participation are crucial.

The city has urged residents for their active participation and enthusiastic support, hoping that this online policy communication will help spread Sejong City's innovative model and achieve great results in the final competition.
