Sharing accurate youth sexual health information ranging from HPV vaccination to the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections

The Bucheon Youth Counseling and Welfare Center (Center Director Baek Jin-hyun), operated by the Bucheon Women and Youth Foundation (CEO Lee Kang-in), announced that it held the "2nd Medical Support Group Open Public Education" at the Boksagol Culture Center on October 14 (Wednesday).

This education was arranged to utilize the expertise of the Medical Support Group of the 1388 Youth Support Group to provide youth health-related information to the local community and support the healthy growth of youth.

The Medical Support Group Open Public Education is conducted in a total of two sessions. The 1st education was operated on September 9 under the theme of "Prevention of Youth Drug Abuse and Misuse."

The 2nd education was held under the theme of "Youth Sexual Health," with Doctor Kim Dal-su (CEO and Director of Suwajin Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic) of the Medical Support Group stepping up as the lecturer. It was conducted free of charge for Bucheon citizens, members of the 1388 Youth Support Group, and citizens interested in youth health.

The education on this day covered necessary topics for managing sexual health during adolescence, including △Understanding HPV, △The necessity of HPV vaccination for youth, and △Understanding and preventing sexually transmitted infections. Through this, participants were enabled to acquire accurate information regarding sexual health-related diseases and understand the importance of prevention, early detection, and proper treatment.

A Bucheon citizen who participated in the education shared their thoughts, saying, "I came to know that HPV vaccination is also necessary for male adolescents. I had been hesitating about my child's HPV vaccination, but through this education, I gained the conviction that I should get them vaccinated." Another participant expressed satisfaction with the education, stating, "I haven't had many opportunities to learn about youth sexuality, so it was great to learn about it in detail."

Lee Jeong-ah, Representative Head of the 1388 Youth Support Group (Representative of the Pulpaenamu Youth Community), stated, "For youth to grow up healthy, they must be able to encounter accurate information regarding physical changes and health issues and receive necessary help," adding, "We will continue to cooperate with local community experts to raise understanding of youth health and lead to practical support."

Following this, Baek Jin-hyun, Center Director of the Bucheon Youth Counseling and Welfare Center, conveyed, "For healthy growth during adolescence, prevention-centered health education and the provision of accurate information are important," and added, "I expect this education to serve as an opportunity to help citizens correctly understand youth sexual health and help youth appropriately cope with health issues."

Based on Article 9 of the "Youth Welfare Support Act," the Bucheon 1388 Youth Support Group is a private participation-based cooperative system in which local private organizations and citizen experts participate to link customized services ranging from the discovery of youth at risk to counseling, medical care, legal services, sponsorships, and education as part of the youth safety net.

The Bucheon Youth Counseling and Welfare Center plans to further strengthen the local community cooperation foundation centered around the 1388 Youth Support Group's "Together Support Group," and continuously expand the private cooperation-based, practical operation system and youth safety net system for youth at risk.
