Busan City (Mayor Jeon Jae-soo) will host the "8th Busan Urban Agriculture Festival" at Song Sang-hyun Square in Busanjin-gu from October 2 to 3.

Under the theme "Busan, Meeting Urban Farmers," this festival is co-hosted by Busan City and Busanjin-gu, and organized by the Busan Urban Agriculture Association. Designed as a celebratory festival themed around "urban agriculture" for urban farmers and citizens to enjoy together, the event features participation from some 40 various organizations and groups, including urban agriculture organizations, related universities, Pukyong Horticultural Agricultural Cooperative, and Mirae Floriculture Farming Association, offering a rich variety of sights and activities to enjoy. In addition, citizens are expected to fully experience the autumn atmosphere through traditional activities—such as rice threshing, rice cake pounding (tteokme-chigi), A-frame (jige) carrying experiences, and Tuho (arrow-throwing) games—as well as exhibitions of various rice varieties and new agricultural produce such as pumpkins and eggplants.

The festival is largely structured into five sections: the Opening Event, Hands-on Activity Area, Autumn Area, Sharing Area, and Exhibition Area. The opening event features a pre-show K-Pop performance followed by award ceremonies for the "2026 Citizen Garden King" and "Urban Agriculture Outstanding Experience Essay." The hands-on activity area prepares a variety of experience programs hosted by urban agriculture communities, including making air-purifying plant pots, creating Shrinkles urban farmer characters, and crafting moss balls. Furthermore, the autumn area is organized as a space to experience autumn rural life through rice threshing and milling experiences, autumn chrysanthemum exhibitions, and autumn flowers such as chrysanthemums and marigold flower tea. Various other spaces, such as the sharing market area and exhibition area, are also prepared for citizens to see and enjoy.

Meanwhile, to spread urban agriculture culture, the city enacted the "Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of Urban Agriculture" in 2012. As of 2026, it has created 3.88 million square meters of urban gardens (2.4 square meters per household) and fostered 296,000 urban farming households (18.8% of all households in the city). In addition, the city pursues various projects such as supplying box gardens in front of homes, smart farm creation projects, companion plant repotting services, running urban agriculture expert training courses, operating children's garden schools, and distributing seedlings.

Kim Ki-hwan, Director General of the Economic Policy Bureau of Busan City, stated, "We hold this event every year to restore community culture and encourage citizens' participation in urban agriculture through a festival that exhibits and lets people experience various practical examples of urban agriculture, thereby fostering a sound civic culture. We will continue to promote diverse and meaningful urban agriculture projects to spread the social, environmental, and ecological values of urban agriculture and create a lifestyle urban agriculture boom."
