Daejeon City will actively promote the '2025 Daejeon-style Vacant House Improvement Project' to restore vitality to existing urban areas and create a safer urban environment.
Daejeon City has so far purchased and improved 13 vacant houses, converting them into public amenity facilities. In 2025, the city will invest 2 billion KRW (1.6 billion KRW city funds, 400 million KRW district funds) to additionally improve 5 locations (2 in Dong-gu, 1 in Jung-gu, 1 in Seo-gu, 1 in Daedeok-gu). At the same time, the city plans to accelerate the project by concurrently implementing the Ministry of Interior and Safety's Vacant House Improvement Support Project*, which provides national funding to basic local governments to improve vacant houses (without purchasing them) after obtaining owner consent for 3 years of public use.
This project involves purchasing and improving vacant houses that have been neglected for a long time and creating public amenity facilities such as parking lots and pocket parks. It is expected to improve the urban landscape and reduce the possibility of safety accidents and crime.
The city plans to enhance budget efficiency by linking with the national funding project and continuously expand various forms of living infrastructure for local residents, such as community spaces, small parks, and parking lots.
Choi Young-joon, Director of Daejeon Metropolitan City's Urban and Housing Bureau, stated, "By promoting the Daejeon-style Vacant House Improvement Project together with the Ministry of Interior and Safety's national funding project, we can now expand local infrastructure more quickly and efficiently. Through this, we expect to revitalize existing urban areas and have a positive impact on improving the urban landscape as well as preventing safety accidents and crime."
