A special time travel where history and imagination meet… A participatory history and culture festival where citizens become the protagonists

The Bucheon Cultural Center (Director Kwon Soon-ho) will host the "Traditional Rak Bucheon 2026" festival for three days from October 23 (Friday) to October 25 (Sunday) around the Bucheon Hanok Experience Village.

Under the theme "Uhuyumotakguk, Opening Time," this year's festival is prepared as a fantasy-style history and culture festival that reinterprets Bucheon's history from about 2,000 years ago with modern imagination. Based on Bucheon's ancient history during the Mahan era, the entire festival venue is designed as a single kingdom so that citizens can directly experience various traditional cultures by becoming merchants, artisans, warriors, and commoners.

At the "Wangseong Yeonhui Madang," the heart of the festival, a variety of performances encompassing traditional arts and local cultural heritage will unfold. Starting with the pre-opening performance by Samulnori Cheongak at 4:30 PM on the 23rd, the opening ceremony will feature congratulatory performances by creative gugak group Gaonrak, Monghon Arts Troupe, and Bucheon Cultural Center PR Ambassador Jang Mi-so, along with the Culture Family Art Festival, presenting a colorful stage of local culture and arts.

Intangible heritage reenactment events highlighting local history and traditional culture are also noteworthy. Through reenactment performances of Gyeonggi-do Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 61 "Jarigeodi" and Bucheon City Local Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 61 (Note: refers to No. 5 "Bucheon Seokcheon Nonggigo Dumari"), there will be time to reflect on the value of traditional rituals and folk arts passed down in the region.

Throughout the festival venue, experience programs containing the worldview of the kingdom will be operated. Archery can be enjoyed at the "Warrior Training Center," and various folk games at the "Commoners' Playground." Traditional crafts such as woodworking and ceramics can be experienced at the "Artisans' Workshop," and craft-making and cultural products can be found at the "Commoners' Market." In addition, at the "Uhuyumotakguk Excavation Site," Mahan-era ancient tombs and jar coffin exhibitions/commentaries, as well as children's excavation experiences, will be held.

Besides these, an outdoor resting space meeting Bucheon's history and culture called "Uhuyumotakguk History Library," local food restoration exhibitions and tastings, and the "Kingdom Jeojatgeori" prepared with various foods such as food trucks will be operated. The "Uhuyumotakguk Exploration Mission," where participants collect stamps from six zones of the festival venue to receive a souvenir for the first 50 people per day, will also take place.

This festival is meaningful in that it connects the Culture Family Art Festival, Gyeonggi Youth Traditional Culture and Arts School, traditional culture experiences, and local food restoration projects promoted by the Bucheon Cultural Center, sharing the results with citizens. Through this, it plans to make Bucheon's history and traditional culture more friendly and develop it into a distinctive regional history and culture festival shared with citizens.

Bucheon Cultural Center Director Kwon Soon-ho said, "Bucheon's long history and traditional culture are precious assets that we must remember together and pass on to the next generation," adding, "I hope this festival will be an occasion where citizens newly discover the cultural value of our region and generations come together to share its meaning."

Detailed event schedules and programs can be found on the Bucheon Cultural Center website.
