SEOUL — LG CNS, a leading South Korean IT service and digital transformation provider, has forged a strategic co-investment partnership with global investment firm General Atlantic. The alliance aims to target high-potential companies in the enterprise software (SW) and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors worldwide.
The partnership represents a pivotal step in LG CNS’s long-term business diversification strategy. By moving beyond traditional IT services and AI transformation (AX) consulting, the company intends to integrate license- and subscription-based software business models into its core portfolio to secure stable, recurring revenue streams.
The agreement was officially finalized on September 24 (local time) at General Atlantic’s headquarters in New York. Key executives in attendance included Hyun Shin-gyun, CEO of LG CNS, and Martin Escobari, Co-President and Managing Director, Global Head of Growth Equity at General Atlantic. While specific investment amounts and terms have not been publicly disclosed, the partners announced that financial details will be revealed on a deal-by-deal basis as target companies are finalized.
Targeting Core Industry Solutions
The joint investment initiative will primarily focus on tech enterprises specializing in enterprise software and AI technologies that support mission-critical operations across major industries, including manufacturing, finance, logistics, and energy.
By combining LG CNS’s deep-rooted technical expertise in AX with General Atlantic’s extensive investment track record and robust global network, the two firms plan to discover promising acquisition and investment targets while exploring synergistic business collaborations.
General Atlantic brings significant firepower to the partnership. As of June 30, the firm manages approximately $130 billion in assets, operates through more than 900 employees across 20 countries, and boasts a 45-year history of investing in pioneering technology companies.
Securing Intellectual Property for the AI Era
Through this partnership, LG CNS aims to secure valuable intellectual property (IP) assets, bolstering its recurring revenue foundation. The company plans to seamlessly integrate the newly acquired technologies and customer bases with its existing IT services and AX solutions, expanding its customer touchpoints from North America to the Asia-Pacific region.
Company representatives emphasized that as "agentic AI"—AI systems capable of autonomous reasoning and execution—becomes increasingly vital for corporate operations, it must be deeply integrated with enterprise software that manages core data, security, and regulatory compliance. LG CNS intends to leverage these acquired assets to supercharge its AX business expansion.
"As AI accelerates innovations in how corporations operate, the proactive securing of enterprise software that manages core business functions and data will serve as a crucial momentum for building our future growth foundation," said Hyun Shin-gyun, CEO of LG CNS. "Together with General Atlantic, we will secure core business infrastructure that will dictate future growth and combine it with LG CNS's AX capabilities to deliver unprecedented customer value."
