HÀ NỘI — Nhâm Mạnh Dũng, often coming off the bench, has become a key figure for Thể Công Viettel, injecting dynamism into their attack. Dubbed a 'silent hero,' his two crucial goals in the V.League 1 2024-2025 season speak volumes.

On January 19th at Thiên Trường Stadium, Dũng entered the game in the second half and wasted no time, scoring the winning goal against defending champions Nam Định Club just seven minutes after his arrival. He repeated his heroics on February 14th against Đà Nẵng. With his team trailing, Dũng came on in the 73rd minute and quickly leveled the score with a stunning goal, securing a valuable 1-1 draw.

Despite competition from foreign strikers, Dũng has featured in seven matches this season, playing a vital role in Thể Công's top-three league position with 22 points.

A Rising Star in Vietnamese Football

Dũng's talent has marked him as one of Vietnam's most promising young players. He debuted for the national team at just 18, fueled by a lifelong passion for the sport. His journey began at the Thái Bình provincial children's tournament, and by 11, he was competing nationally. His skills earned him a spot in the Thể Công Viettel youth team in 2013.

At the 2017 National U17 Championship, Dũng's eight goals led U17 Thể Công Viettel to a second-place finish, earning him the top scorer award. This performance paved the way for his professional debut with the first team in 2019 at the age of 19.

Versatility and Team Spirit

Dũng is not just a prolific attacker; he's also a versatile player capable of excelling in defense. He seamlessly transitioned to center back when the team faced personnel shortages, earning praise from coach Thạch Bảo Khanh: "In both positions, Dũng plays his role exceptionally well. His football mindset and understanding of his responsibilities are commendable."

His adaptability shone brightly at the 2022 SEA Games, where his decisive header in the final against U23 Thailand secured the gold medal for U23 Việt Nam. Coach Chu Đình Nghiêm lauded his tenacity: "He’s an aggressive, resilient player who can turn the tide of a match. His entrance onto the field often sharpens Thể Công's attacking edge."

Dũng’s tactical insight, game awareness, and positional versatility have earned him respect from coaches and experts. In addition to his SEA Games gold, he was part of the U23 Vietnamese team that reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 AFC U23 Championship. His impressive physique and stamina have garnered praise domestically, though injuries have limited his national team appearances.

However, his versatility and professionalism are likely to attract the attention of national team coach Kim Sang-sik, who is looking to rejuvenate the team with young talent. Fans are hopeful that Dũng's talent and determination will continue to shine as he contributes to the future of Vietnamese football.
