Madrid, Spain – Renowned Cuban singer-songwriter William Vivanco has joined the growing ranks of Cuban artists seeking a better life abroad. The musician, known for his unique blend of Cuban, African, and Latin rhythms, has recently relocated to Madrid, Spain.

Vivanco, who has been performing and collaborating with other groups, including the popular Interactivo, for several years, has reportedly left Cuba in recent times. A Santiago-based journalist residing between Cuba and Madrid confirmed Vivanco’s move to CubaNet.

"William has performed in several European countries in recent years with great success and is currently living in Madrid, where his work has continued to make an impact; he has even attracted the attention of journalists and specialists for his rich fusion of Cuban rhythms," the journalist, who requested anonymity, told CubaNet.

Vivanco's departure comes amid a severe economic and social crisis in Cuba, marked by a massive exodus, food shortages, and a record number of political prisoners. The singer-songwriter is part of a wave of artists from various disciplines who have left the island in search of greater opportunities and freedoms.

The musician, who has maintained a significant following in Cuba, has been outspoken about his desire to forge an independent career. His decision to leave the island is seen as a blow to the Cuban music scene, but it also underscores the challenges faced by artists who choose to remain in Cuba.

Vivanco is expected to perform with Interactivo at the group's upcoming Christmas concert in Madrid. Interactivo's founder and director, Robertico Carcassés, also emigrated to Spain after facing censorship for his calls for freedom and free elections during a 2013 concert in Havana.

Vivanco's discography includes albums such as "El mundo está cambiao," "La isla milagrosa," and "Trece con magia." His music has been praised for its innovative fusion of genres and his soulful vocals.

In Cuba, Vivanco has remained largely apolitical, focusing on his music. However, his departure, like those of many other Cuban artists, is a clear indication of the challenges faced by those who wish to create and express themselves freely on the island.
