Introducing the results and discourse of the art and technology convergence culture-oriented project as a special project for the city of Yeongdeungpo.

[GLOBAL ECONOMIC TIMES]  Yeongdeungpo-gu Office (Chairman Choi Ho-kwon) and Yeongdeungpo Cultural Foundation (CEO Geon-wang Lee) announced that the ‘2024 Art and Technology City ‘Time and Narrative’ will be held for 12 days starting on the 24th.

This event is a special project for the city of Yeongdeungpo and introduces the results and discourse of the art and technology convergence culture-oriented project. It is a research process with artists selected for creating new works using convergence technology under the theme of Yeongdeungpo (Art of Convergence). Selected Artists (Art of the Process) It consists of a variety of programs including exhibitions, performances, and forums in which a total of 12 selected artists, a 6-person team of planned artists, and a total of 18 artists participated.

Participating artists explore various topics related to climate ecology, technological environment, urban discourse, and perception and thinking, focusing on the placeness of ‘Yeongdeungpo’. The artists researched and observed major places in Yeongdeungpo, including Mullae-dong, Yeouido, Seonyudo, Yeongdeungpo Market, Dangsan, and Yangpyeong-dong, as major destinations. They also explored agendas discovered from the urban landscape and locality, reflections on posthuman and AI ontology, and a symbiotic ecosystem. Interesting and original narratives, including imagination, perception, and reflection, were created.

Utilizing various technological media - Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), data, audio-visual performance, sound, light, interactive media, and web-based game software to implement the work and creative stage It introduces not only the archives built in, but also performances, videos, sculptures, and two-dimensional works, illuminating the place of 'Yeongdeungpo' in a more humanistic and three-dimensional way.

Along with the Arts and Technology City ‘Time and Narrative Time and Story’ event, an exhibition of the results of the ‘We Need Witchcraft Now’ workshop, which is part of the Culture City Yeongdeungpo Arts and Technology Convergence Cultural Project, ‘We Decided to Call It Witchcraft’ will be held. Creative works of art created by 12 citizen artists utilizing the sense of place and local resources of Mullae-dong can be seen at the SulSul Gallery on the first basement floor of the SulSul Center.

There is also a ‘Mullae Art Card Play’ local tour program conducted by artists, activists, and planners who have completed professional docent training courses. It is a course that focuses on culture and arts, including the art environment, stories, and contents of Mullae-dong, and anyone visiting Mullae-dong can participate. Tour reservations will be opened later through the SulSul Center website and Instagram.

Lee Geon-wang, CEO of Yeongdeungpo Cultural Foundation, said, “It is very meaningful that this exhibition was held in Mullae-dong, where ironworking technology, art, and local culture coexist as a special project of Yeongdeungpo, Seoul’s only legal cultural city. The stories from all over Yeongdeungpo that artists had studied were gathered in this very place, intertwined in time and space. “Each of the creative works on the theme of Yeongdeungpo using convergence technology will become an important cultural resource and record over time,” he said. “The active meaning of Yeongdeungpo as a cultural city will further expand.”

He added, “It is a great opportunity to contemplate the city-technology-ecology we live in amidst our current difficult lives and to feel the joy of directly experiencing the art and technology convergence exhibition, so I hope many citizens will come see it.”

Meanwhile, during the event period, weekends are mainly used to run citizen participation programs (6 types) suggested by participating artists. Participation in each program is possible through advance reservation and on-site registration. Two performances are prepared, including ‘Framework’ (Surreal Media), a lecture performance on AI conceptualization, and ‘Yeongdeungpo Patchwork Performance’ (Team 3342), which records Yeongdeungpo through the senses of the body. In addition, citizen participation workshops include Caravan Synth (Kim Dong-hyun) where you can play Yeongdeungpo's environmental data directly, a space concert where you listen to sounds (Navigator), a book reading group (Navigator), and making a micronation game (Tissue Office). It goes on.

In addition, the exhibition-related ‘Forum x Artist Talk’ will be held on Sunday, November 3. In total, in three parts, with the theme of 'Encounter with the invisible world/Media art beyond technology/Art as commons, commons as art', the exhibition discourse of the art and technology city 'Time and Narrative Time and Story' and the direction of the cultural city of Yeongdeungpo are included. Take time to observe.

Detailed information about the Arts and Technology City ‘Time and Narrative’ can be found on the Culture City Yeongdeungpo website and blog.
