Samsung Electronics has accelerated its dominance in the high-performance, low-power memory market tailored for the expanding On-Device Artificial Intelligence (AI) era. The company announced that its 16-gigabyte (GB) LPDDR6 memory has successfully operated at input/output (I/O) speeds of up to 10.7 Gbps on Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon platform, marking an industry first. 

Powering the Next Wave of On-Device AI

As AI assistants and large language models (LLMs) migrate directly onto smartphones and tablets, memory requirements have shifted dramatically. Devices must process massive streams of data locally while keeping power consumption minimal to preserve battery life. Samsung’s newly validated LPDDR6 addresses these hardware bottlenecks by delivering a maximum memory bandwidth of 114 GB per second. This substantial throughput significantly alleviates data-movement friction between the processor and memory, ensuring seamless execution for complex generative AI tasks. 

In addition to raw speed, energy efficiency has been vastly optimized. By integrating dynamic power-scaling frameworks—such as real-time voltage and frequency adjustments based on system workload—the LPDDR6 architecture achieves up to a 21% improvement in power efficiency compared to its predecessor, the LPDDR5X. This milestone is the direct result of deep engineering cooperation between Samsung Electronics and Qualcomm since the early developmental stages, ensuring rigorous optimization across hardware layers. 

Expanding Market Horizon and Strategic Vision

Industry analysts highlight that the integration of advanced low-power DRAM will scale rapidly alongside device intelligence. Market research firm Omdia projects that the adoption share of LPDDR6 across total LPDDR shipments will surge from 3% next year to 39% by 2030. Building on a strong legacy of collaborative achievements—including the 2024 verification of 10.7 Gbps LPDDR5X on MediaTek's flagship architecture—Samsung aims to extend its technological lead. 

Furthermore, Samsung is pushing LPDDR applications beyond traditional mobile environments into high-performance data centers and edge computing. By pioneering server-oriented memory modules like SOCAMM2 and memory-centric processing architectures such as LPDDR-PIM, the company is positioning itself at the core of future AI infrastructure. Following this successful validation with Qualcomm, Samsung plans to broaden partnerships with major system-on-chip (SoC) providers worldwide to secure long-term leadership in the next-generation memory landscape.
