Busan, South Korea – To commemorate the 30th Sea Day, the area around Busan Port will be awash with diverse Hallyu cultural content. The Busan Port Authority (BPA), in conjunction with Busan City and the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, announced on the 27th that the 18th Busan Port Festival will be held for two days from May 30th to 31st at the outdoor parking lot of the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal, the North Port Waterfront Park, and the area around the National Maritime Museum in Yeongdo. This year's festival will be significantly richer in scale than previous years, with a major enhancement of Hallyu content, including K-POP concerts, in connection with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's 'MyK FESTA'.

The Present and Future of K-POP at a Glance

On the first day of the festival, May 30th, a K-POP Expo will open at 10:00 AM at the outdoor parking lot of the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal, where entertainment companies will showcase the latest technologies applied to K-POP. It is expected to provide an opportunity to directly see and experience how cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) are utilized in K-POP content production and fan experience. This will demonstrate that K-POP is a global cultural industry that constantly evolves by converging with technology, transcending mere music.

On the same day at 11:30 AM, a K-POP Conference will be held at the Wyndham Grand Busan Hotel, bringing together domestic and international K-POP industry professionals. This event will offer in-depth insights into the future of AI and the music industry, discussing how technological advancements will change the creation, distribution, and consumption of K-POP. It is expected to be a meaningful time to explore sustainable development directions for the K-POP industry through insightful lectures and panel discussions by experts.

K-POP Stars and Fireworks to Light Up the Night Sky

The evening of May 30th is expected to be the highlight of the festival. From 6:40 PM, a spectacular K-POP Concert and the Busan Port Fireworks Show will unfold at the outdoor parking lot of the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal. The K-POP concert, starting at 7:00 PM, will feature top-tier K-POP artists such as Super Junior-D&E, CNBLUE, N.Flying, ITZY, KyongSeo, dori, and ZOZAZZ, who are expected to draw enthusiastic cheers from fans. Their performances, showcasing various genres and styles, will heat up Busan's night.

Following this, from 9:30 PM, the Busan Port Fireworks Show will magnificently adorn the night sky, marking the grand finale of the festival. The grand and beautiful spectacle of fireworks against the backdrop of Busan Port's night view is expected to provide unforgettable memories for visitors. In particular, the fireworks show against the sea is considered a special attraction that can only be seen at the Busan Port Festival.

Marine Culture Experience for the Whole Family

On the second day of the festival, May 31st, an even wider range of cultural experience programs will be prepared at the North Port Waterfront Park. K-POP cover dance competitions featuring artists from around the world and busking performances of various genres, including classical and jazz, will enhance the festive atmosphere. This will allow attendees to truly feel the global influence of K-POP and experience the world uniting through music.

Additionally, at the Global Port-Park, booths will operate to introduce and experience various cultural contents from around the world. Visitors can experience traditional games, food, and crafts from various countries, deepening their understanding of global cultures. Boat tours will be conducted in the waterway within the North Port Waterfront Park, allowing visitors to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Busan Port up close. Furthermore, the experience of building models of traditional Korean boats such as the Geobukseon (Turtle Ship) and Panokseon will provide children with an educational opportunity to learn both history and marine science simultaneously.

On May 31st, around the National Maritime Museum in Yeongdo and the Coast Guard pier, a Busan Port tour using the port guide vessel Saenuri-ho will be available. Through this, visitors can directly see and hear about the history, function, and dynamic現場 of Busan Port. Also, a public event for the Coast Guard's large patrol vessels will be held, offering a special opportunity to understand the role of the Coast Guard in defending marine sovereignty and ensuring maritime safety, and to tour the interior of the vessels.

A Meaningful Festival Affirming Busan's Status as a Marine Capital

Song Sang-geun, President of the Busan Port Authority, emphasized, "The Busan Port Festival will be a festive venue where the sea and city, people and port harmonize, and a meaningful occasion to reconfirm the status of Busan as the marine capital of South Korea." Beyond mere enjoyment, the Busan Port Festival also carries educational significance, re-instilling the importance of the sea and the role of the port in citizens, and enhancing their understanding of marine culture.

The Busan Port Festival, held to commemorate the 30th Sea Day and incorporating popular Hallyu content like K-POP, is expected to attract more domestic and international visitors and contribute to firmly establishing Busan as a hub for marine tourism and culture. Further information about the festival can be found on the Busan Festival Organizing Committee website (www.bfo.or.kr).
