MENLO PARK — In a move that signals the next evolution of wearable technology, Meta has officially unveiled its latest addition to the Ray-Ban Meta lineup: the Scriber Optics 2nd Generation. For the first time, the tech giant is shifting its primary focus toward full-time prescription lens wearers, blending high-fashion aesthetics with sophisticated artificial intelligence designed to monitor health and streamline daily communication.

The announcement, made on March 31 (local time), introduces two distinct frame styles: the rectangular "Blayzer" and the rounded "Scriber." These models represent a significant pivot for Meta, moving beyond the "gadget" phase of smart glasses and into the territory of essential daily eyewear.

Redefining Comfort and Customization
While previous iterations of Meta’s smart glasses could be fitted with prescription lenses, the new series has been engineered from the ground up for all-day comfort. Meta emphasizes that these are their most ergonomic frames to date. Key design improvements include:

Flexible Hinge Structures: Designed to accommodate various head shapes without applying excessive pressure.
Interchangeable Nose Pads: Allowing for a more secure fit regardless of facial structure.
Adjustable Temples: Ensuring the weight is distributed evenly for long-term wear.
Starting at $499, the glasses will hit shelves on April 14 across major global markets and specialized optical retailers. To further appeal to the fashion-conscious, Meta is also expanding its palette with new transparent frame colors and advanced lens options, including "Transitions" photochromic lenses and specialized sports-tuned glass.

AI-Powered Nutritionist on Your Face
The most striking feature of the new lineup is the integration of advanced AI for dietary management. Meta has streamlined the tedious process of calorie counting and food journaling into a seamless, hands-free experience.

Users can now record their meals simply by taking a photo or using a voice command. The Meta AI then analyzes the visual data to identify food types, estimate portion sizes, and calculate nutritional content. Beyond mere recording, the system offers personalized advice on eating habits, acting as a proactive health coach that lives on the user's bridge of the nose.

Seamless Communication and Privacy
Meta is also doubling down on productivity through its Early Access Program (EAP). The new glasses feature "WhatsApp Summary," allowing users to catch up on cluttered group chats with a simple voice prompt: "Meta, summarize my messages."

The AI can also recall specific details from previous conversations, helping users stay on top of their social and professional lives without ever looking at a screen. Addressing potential privacy concerns, Meta clarified that these processing tasks occur on-device where possible and are protected by end-to-end encryption.

The Future of Input: Neural Handwriting
Rounding out the software suite is the "Neural Handwriting" feature, set to roll out to all users in the coming weeks. This innovative tech allows users to "write" in the air or on any surface with their fingertips. The glasses track these micro-gestures and convert them into text for Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and standard SMS on both Android and iOS.

As Meta merges the worlds of corrective eyewear and generative AI, the Ray-Ban Meta Scriber Optics series marks a clear step toward a future where "looking" at information is just as natural as seeing the world through a pair of glasses. By focusing on those who must wear glasses every day, Meta may have finally found the key to making smart eyewear a mainstream necessity rather than a niche luxury.
