A Harmony of Blue and White Invites Citizens to a Healing Space in the City

July 14, 2025, Bucheon is filled with the fresh scent of summer. As part of its seasonal flower landscaping project, Bucheon City has created beautiful summer flower scenery, primarily featuring hydrangeas, at Sangdong Lake Park and Dodang Park, offering citizens a refreshing sight. This project, originally planned for six parks in the Wonmi, Sosa, and Ojeong areas, was initially implemented in these two parks based on secured budget, resulting in the creation of a special space where various hydrangea varieties can be enjoyed at a glance within the city.

The Summer Ambiance Offered by Diverse Hydrangea Varieties

The hydrangea trails created at Sangdong Lake Park and Dodang Park were meticulously planned not just to plant flowers, but to allow citizens to enjoy seasonal summer blooms up close. Notably, two hydrangea varieties, 'Endless Summer' and 'Limelight,' were primarily planted in this landscaping project.

Endless Summer, as its name suggests, blooms throughout the summer and possesses the charming characteristic of changing colors from blue to pink depending on the soil's acidity. In Bucheon, mostly blue-hued Endless Summer hydrangeas are widely planted, creating a cool and refreshing atmosphere. Limelight, on the other hand, boasts large flower heads that change from white to light lime green, gradually turning pink over time, offering a continuous and never-boring color transformation. The harmony of these two varieties provides visitors with diverse colors and abundant sights, offering a special experience to enjoy the beauty of nature even in the heart of the city.

Bucheon's Continuous Efforts as a Four-Season Flower City

Bucheon City has previously solidified its image as a 'City of Flowers' through the splendid Azalea Festival on Wonmi Mountain in spring. This summer's hydrangea landscape creation is an important step in continuing this seasonal flower city initiative. Such efforts, progressing from azaleas in spring to hydrangeas in summer, demonstrate Bucheon's strong commitment to providing citizens with beautiful floral scenery throughout all four seasons.

This hydrangea landscape project aims not only to offer visual pleasure to citizens visiting the parks in summer but also to provide a space for healing with a refreshing view, even if just for a short while, amidst the hot city. Simply walking along the flower-filled paths or sitting on a bench gazing at the hydrangeas is expected to bring great comfort and vitality to citizens weary from daily life.

A City of Flowers Created with Citizens

A Bucheon City Park Management Division official stated, "We hope that parks with blooming flowers become spaces for citizens to find rest in their daily lives," adding, "We will continue to create a four-season flower city by actively incorporating citizen opinions." This statement clearly shows Bucheon City's commitment to making parks and green spaces more beautiful and abundant to improve citizens' quality of life.

In fact, in addition to this hydrangea project, Bucheon City is pursuing various park improvement initiatives. Through the renovation of old facilities, expansion of resting areas, and planting diverse vegetation, efforts are being made to transform parks from mere resting places into complex spaces where citizens can experience nature and enjoy culture. These efforts will significantly contribute to Bucheon's development from a simple residential city into a comfortable and livable city where nature and culture coexist.

This summer, why not visit the hydrangea trails at Sangdong Lake Park and Dodang Park to personally experience the beautiful flower festival unfolding in the city? Walking among the blue and white hydrangeas, you can momentarily forget the stresses of daily life and enjoy a truly healing time.
