Singapore has once again made its mark on the global stage, with three prominent women being recognized in Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Women list for 2024. Released on December 11th, the list celebrates influential women across various industries.

Helen Wong, OCBC Chief

Helen Wong, Group CEO of OCBC Bank, secured the 59th spot. With a career spanning over four decades, Wong has led OCBC to significant growth, with the bank reporting a total income of $13.5 billion in 2023. Her active role in the banking industry is evident through her positions on the council of the Association of Banks and the Institute of Banking and Finance in Singapore.

Ho Ching, Temasek Trust Chair

Ho Ching, Chair of Temasek Trust, climbed one position to 32nd place. As the former CEO of Temasek Holdings, she played a pivotal role in growing the investment firm’s portfolio to over US$313 billion. Her strategic vision, particularly in sectors like life sciences, technology, and agribusiness, has been instrumental in shaping Temasek’s global impact.

Jenny Lee, Granite Asia Senior Managing Partner

Jenny Lee, a Senior Managing Partner at Granite Asia, retained her position in the top 100, moving up one spot to 97th. Renowned as a trailblazer in venture capital, Lee has backed numerous successful startups and has been instrumental in facilitating 16 IPOs. Her inclusion in Forbes’ Midas List 2012 further solidifies her reputation as a leading investor.

Global Powerhouses

Topping the list once again is Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. As the first woman to hold this position, she wields significant influence over European policy and the lives of millions of people.

Other notable names on the list include pop icons Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Rihanna, who ranked 23rd, 35th, and 76th, respectively.

Forbes’ methodology for determining the list considers factors such as financial metrics, media impact, and spheres of influence. The 100 women recognized collectively command a staggering US$33 trillion in economic power.
