The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) delegation, comprising President Thomas Daddy Brima, Vice President Harold Nat-Johnson, and Interim Secretary General Mohamed Benson Bawoh, is currently attending the 75th FIFA Congress in Asunción, Paraguay.

The FIFA Congress is the supreme decision-making body of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), bringing together representatives from its 211 member associations to discuss and decide on key matters concerning global football. This year's Congress is particularly significant as it commemorates FIFA's 75th anniversary, making it a pivotal event for shaping the future of global football through crucial discussions and decisions.

During the Congress, the SLFA delegation will engage with leading figures in the international football community, sharing insights and exploring collaborations aimed at the sustainable growth and development of Sierra Leonean football. Their focus will notably be on strengthening international partnerships, establishing transparent and sound governance, and seeking new investment and cooperation avenues for the advancement of football in Sierra Leone.

Prior to attending the Congress, SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima stated, "This FIFA Congress presents a vital opportunity to elevate the international standing of Sierra Leonean football and strengthen our network with football leaders worldwide. We are committed to actively seeking new ideas and collaborations for the development of football in Sierra Leone and to conveying our voice within the international football community."

The Congress is expected to commemorate FIFA's 75 years of achievements and involve in-depth discussions on the challenges and future direction of the football world. Key agenda items likely include △FIFA's financial and operational reports △Statute amendments △Coordination of the international match calendar △Development plans for youth and women's football △Strengthening football's social responsibility. Additionally, announcements or decisions related to upcoming international football tournament hosting bids may also occur.

The SLFA delegation's participation in this Congress is anticipated to play a crucial role in strengthening Sierra Leone's position on the international football stage and enhancing cooperation with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and other continental football associations. The development of football in developing nations is a key objective for FIFA, and the SLFA's active involvement can contribute to achieving this goal.

Despite facing difficult periods in the past, including civil war and the Ebola virus epidemic, the passion for football among the people of Sierra Leone remains immense. However, the nation still faces numerous challenges, such as inadequate infrastructure and financial constraints. Through their attendance at the FIFA Congress, the SLFA aims to attract international support and investment, laying the groundwork for the sustainable development of football in Sierra Leone.

FIFA operates various programs to support the development of its member associations, and this Congress could lead to the further concretization of these support measures. Financial aid, technical assistance, and educational programs, in particular, could help strengthen the capabilities of football associations in developing countries like Sierra Leone.

This FIFA Congress is more than just a meeting; it is an important platform for football stakeholders worldwide to interact, collaborate, and explore the future. The active participation of the Sierra Leone Football Association delegation is expected not only to positively impact the development of football in Sierra Leone but also to contribute to the overall advancement of the international football community. It is worth noting the outcomes the SLFA will achieve through this Congress and how their cooperation with the international football community will shape the growth of football in Sierra Leone in the future.
