SEOUL — Netflix is pulling out all the stops for what it anticipates will be the crowning jewel of its 2026 live broadcasting lineup. At a pre-media briefing held on March 20 at Cinecube in Gwanghwamun, Brandon Riegg, Vice President of Netflix, confirmed that the upcoming "BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG" is set to be the streaming giant’s largest live event of the year.
A Historic Stage at the Heart of Seoul
The comeback performance, scheduled for March 21 at 8:00 PM KST, will take place at Gwanghwamun Plaza—the historical and cultural epicenter of Seoul. While 22,000 lucky fans will attend in person, Netflix will beam the performance live to 190 countries and territories, ensuring a global front-row seat for the "ARMY" (BTS’s global fandom).
"I am confident that this BTS comeback will be the biggest among all Netflix live events this year," Riegg stated. "This performance, set in the historic space of Gwanghwamun, will create a moment where K-culture reaches out to the world and connects people."
Engineering a Global Spectacle
The sheer technical scale of the production is unprecedented for a live music broadcast. To ensure a seamless experience for millions of concurrent viewers, Netflix and HYBE have deployed a massive logistical operation:
Infrastructure: Over 9.5km of power cables have been laid across the Gwanghwamun area.
Equipment: The total weight of broadcasting gear exceeds 164,500kg.
Data Power: The event is supported by a server capacity of 40 Terabytes.
Manpower: Hundreds of staff members are on-site, utilizing over 200 professional radios to coordinate the complex choreography and technical cues.
Identity and "Arirang": Back to the Roots
The choice of Gwanghwamun was deeply intentional, reflecting the "identity" of BTS after a four-year hiatus. The title of the show, "ARIRANG," signifies a bridge between Korea’s traditional soul and its modern global influence.
Kim Hyun-jung, VP of Big Hit Music, explained, "'Arirang' is a work that captures the current image of BTS and the emotions the members are feeling. It embodies their identity as artists who started in Korea and have created music that resonates globally."
Yoo Dong-joo, CEO of HYBE Music Group APAC, echoed this sentiment, noting that bringing together fans, the public, and international visitors at Korea's most symbolic landmark is a "rare and meaningful cultural experience."
Where Tradition Meets Modernity
The production team, led by Executive Producer Garrett English, has focused on the harmony between Gwanghwamun’s historic architecture and BTS’s cutting-edge stagecraft. "We wanted to create a dynamic performance space that respects the historical significance of Gwanghwamun while blending it with the modern elements of BTS," English said.
As the world prepares to tune in tomorrow, Netflix is betting big that this fusion of K-pop royalty and Korean heritage will set a new gold standard for live digital entertainment.
