An outdoor park where prospective couples residing or working in Seoul can hold their wedding ceremony for free is opening to alleviate the financial burden of wedding expenses. If at least one person in the couple resides in Seoul, they can receive up to 1 million won in support for equipment costs such as chairs and tables.
The Seoul Water Regeneration Facility Corporation, a public corporation under the Seoul Metropolitan Government, announced on the 28th that it will offer two outdoor parks free of charge for prospective couples burdened by wedding costs: Maru Park in Gangnam-gu and Seoul Water Regeneration Park in Gangseo-gu.
Rental is available every Saturday from March to June and August to November. The rental fee is entirely free. The Seoul Metropolitan Government will also support up to 1 million won for the operating costs of equipment such as chairs and tables.
Due to the nature of public weddings, costs are incurred in transforming non-wedding hall spaces into wedding venues. To help reduce these costs, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will provide up to 1 million won per wedding.
Applicants must be Seoul residents, have a connection to Seoul (including those working, studying at a university, or self-employed in Seoul), or have parents residing in Seoul. However, to receive support for rental fees and equipment costs, at least one member of the prospective couple must reside in Seoul.
A representative from the corporation stated, "Maru Park and Seoul Water Regeneration Park offer open green views and ample space, allowing for the creation of outdoor weddings with various atmospheres. Sufficient parking space is also secured for the convenience of visitors."
Consultations and reservations can be made through the Seoul My Wedding website (https://wedding.seoulwomen.or.kr) and the consultation center (1899-2154). Kwon Wan-taek, CEO of the Seoul Water Regeneration Facility Corporation, said, "We have prepared free wedding spaces to alleviate the concerns of prospective couples who hesitate to marry due to the burden of wedding expenses. We will continue to open our facilities to become open spaces for all citizens."
