[GLOBAL ECONOMIC TIMES]  Pohang City (Mayor Lee Kang-deok), which dreams of becoming a cultural city, is holding the best international music festival to fill the fall with music. An art festival based on classical music featuring flutist Lee Kim Yu-bin, pianist Seonwoo Ye-kwon, and conductor Yoon Han-gyeol will be held at the Pohang Culture and Arts Center and the Pohang City area starting November 1.

The Pohang Cultural Foundation (CEO Lee Sang-mo) announced that it will hold the 2024 Pohang International Music Festival ‘SONG OF THE SEA’ from the 1st to the 8th at the Pohang Culture and Arts Center and the entire city of Pohang.

The festival, which celebrates its 4th anniversary starting in 2021 as the ‘Pohang Music Festival’, has changed its name to the ‘Pohang International Music Festival’ from this year. While striving to become a representative regional brand, we also hope to increase citizens' pride in their region thanks to the support from Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, which has been added since last year.

The opening performance, which begins on November 1, opens the festival with a collaborative program performed by Pohang Festival Orchestra conductor Yoon Han-gyeol and flutist Kim Yu-bin. They will perform Mendelssohn’s ‘Silent Sea and Merry Voyage’, Rineke’s Flute Concerto, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s ‘Scheherazade’.

The stage on November 2nd will be a chamber music performance performed by performers participating in the festival. Beethoven's Serenade for flute, violin and viola in D major (Yubin Kim, Tobias Feldmann, Hanna Lee), Prüling's Piano Quintet in F# major (Youngwook Kim, Jaeyoung Kim, Adrien La Marca, Julian Stekel, Dasol Kim), Stravinsky's 'Soldier' 'Story' (Stella Chen, Jo In-hyuk, Ilya Schmukler) and Tuilet's Sextet in Bb major for piano and woodwind (Kim Yu-bin, Yoon Seong-young, Jo In-hyuk, Kim Hyeon-jun, Kim Hong-bak, Kim Da-sol) will be performed.

November 3rd is the stage of pianist Baek Hae-seon, whom we will meet for the first time in a long time. We did not see each other often while working as a professor at the New England Conservatory. During this festival, Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 28, Seo Ju-ri’s Sonata No. 2 ‘Spring’, Liszt’s Venice and Naples, and Mussorgsky’s ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ will be performed.

On November 4th, a stage was prepared for chamber music and songs featuring Schumann's works. Baritone Kang Hyeong-gyu will perform Schumann's “The Poet's Love,” three romances performed by violinist Kim Jae-young and pianist Illya Schmukler, and a piano quintet will be performed by Tobias Feltman, Kim Young-wook, Adrien La Marca, Park Yu-shin, and Baek Hye-sun.

The stage on November 5 will be a recital by the French male string quartet Quartet Arod, a new generation artist selected by the BBC. Composed of Jordan Victoria (violin), Alexandre Bou (violin), Tanguy Parisot (viola), and Sammy Rachid (cello), they formed a team in 2013 and won the Karl Nielsen Chamber Music Competition held in Copenhagen in 2015 and the European Competition (Paris in 2014). ) received attention on the international stage after winning. At the Pohang International Music Festival, which invites world-class string quartets to take center stage every year, they perform Haydn's String Quartet No. 6, Schumann's String Quartet No. 3, and Debussy's String Quartet in G minor.

November 6th is a chamber music performance with the Arode Quartet. Chopin's Piano Trio in G minor (Jaeyoung Kim, Julian Stekel, Dasol Kim), Arensky's Piano Quintet in D major (Youngwook Kim, Stella Chen, Adrien La Marca, Yushin Park, Ilya Schmuckler), string music from Strauss' opera 'Capriccio' Sextet (Stella Chen, Tobias Feltman, Hanna Lee, Adrien La Marca, Victor Julien Laferriere, Julian Stekel) and Tchaikovsky's 'Memories of Florence' performed by the Ador Quartet, Hanna Lee, and Victor Julia Laferriere.

November 7th is the stage with pianist Sunwoo Ye-kwon. They will perform Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 with the Pohang Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Cha Woong.

This year's closing performance on November 8th will feature a string octet. Following Chopin's Cello Sonata (Victor-Julien Laferrière, Ilya Schmuckler), Enescu's String Octet in C major (Tobias Feltman, Stella Chen, Jae-young Kim, Young-wook Kim, Adrien La Marca, Hanna Lee, Julian Stekel, Park Yu-shin) And, Maitry, an a cappella group loved for its captivating harmonies and innovative sounds, marks the grand finale. In addition to organizing some popular programs so that a wider audience can enjoy them, Johann Strauss II's Beautiful Blue Danube and the third movement of Haydn's Trumpet Concerto will be presented a cappella.

In addition, programs such as ‘Focus Stage’, ‘Artist Pohang’ introducing artists from Pohang, visiting concerts, and master classes, and in October, the Pohang International Music Festival Fringe with local performers will meet the audience.

Tickets for the main performance of the 2024 Pohang International Music Festival are 50,000 won for R seats and 40,000 won for S seats and can be purchased through the ticket link. Various discount benefits are provided, including a 50% discount for Gyeongbuk residents. All seats for the Focus Stage are 30,000 won, and the Artist Pohang Program is 10,000 won for all seats.
