Korean steamed egg, or gyeran-jjim, is a simple yet incredibly comforting dish that has won the hearts of many food lovers around the world. Often served as a side dish or appetizer, this fluffy and savory egg custard is a staple in Korean cuisine.

What is Gyeran-jjim?

Gyeran-jjim is essentially a steamed egg custard seasoned with a mixture of salt, sugar, and often other ingredients like soy sauce, sesame oil, and vegetables. The result is a delicate and flavorful dish that is both satisfying and easy to make.

Why You Should Try Gyeran-jjim

Comforting and Versatile: Whether you're feeling under the weather or simply craving a cozy meal, gyeran-jjim is the perfect dish to satisfy your cravings.
Easy to Customize: You can customize your gyeran-jjim with various ingredients, such as chopped green onions, mushrooms, or even seafood.
Quick and Simple: This dish can be prepared in under 30 minutes, making it a great option for busy weeknights.

Recipe: Korean Steamed Egg (Gyeran-jjim)
Ingredients:

3 large eggs
1/2 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional)
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 green onion, thinly sliced

Instructions:

Prepare the egg mixture: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, water, salt, sugar, soy sauce, and sesame oil until well combined.
Strain the mixture: Strain the egg mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any lumps.
Add vegetables: If desired, add the sliced green onion to the egg mixture.
Steam: Pour the egg mixture into a heatproof dish or ramekins. Place the dish in a steamer and steam over medium heat for 10-12 minutes, or until the eggs are set and slightly puffed.
Serve: Serve immediately with your favorite Korean dishes.

Tips:

Don't overmix: Overmixing the eggs can result in a tough texture.
Use a heatproof dish: Make sure to use a heatproof dish that can withstand high heat.
Adjust seasonings: Feel free to adjust the seasonings to your taste.
