The 2025 Pohang Marine Corps Culture Festival concluded on November 16th after a highly successful two-day run, drawing an impressive crowd of approximately 60,000 visitors. Held across the Marine Street in Ocheon-eup and the adjacent Marine Corps 1st Division base in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do, the festival proved to be a major crowd-puller thanks to its specialized content and diverse participatory programs.

The event, which ran from November 15th to the 16th, featured high-octane specialized performances that were a massive hit. Spectators were captivated by the precision and spectacle of the High-Altitude Parachute Jump Demonstration and the Honor Guard Performance, which were cited as significant drivers of the festival's success. These unique, high-value programs highlighted the capabilities and discipline of the Republic of Korea Marine Corps, generating thunderous applause and excitement among the attendees.

A wide array of interactive experiences also proved immensely popular, with long queues forming at various Marine Corps experience zones. The Paintball Shooting Experience, the Real-World Physical Fitness Zone, and the Equipment Exhibition, including a special booth by the U.S. Marine Corps, allowed the public a rare, hands-on glimpse into the life and training of a Marine.

Furthermore, areas within the base that are typically off-limits to the public, such as the Dosol Hall, the Marine Corps History Museum, and the Haeryong House, were opened for the festival. These facilities, which showcase the history of both Pohang City and the Marine Corps, attracted considerable interest from visitors eager to learn more about the deep-rooted relationship between the city and the military.

The Marine Street area transformed into a hub of public participation, offering engaging activities such as Dog Tag Making, MRE (Meal, Ready-to-Eat) Tastings, and Face Painting. A new addition this year, the Kids' Playground Air Bouncer, proved particularly delightful for families, enhancing the festival's appeal to all age groups.

The opening ceremony was a demonstration of unity, featuring a grand civil-military-police harmony parade, led by ROK and U.S. color guard teams, followed by the Honor Guard, the Marine Corps Military Band, and a march of soldiers in specialized gear. The ceremony culminated with a dazzling array of performances, including the aforementioned Honor Guard and High-Altitude Parachute demonstrations, and a celebratory concert featuring popular singers like Song Ga-in, which instantly energized the venue.

Beyond the military showcases, the festival fostered a spirit of camaraderie and communication. Contests like the "Hot People Selection Contest" for Marine Corps officers and soldiers, and the "Noraechum Han Pan FESTA" (Singing and Dancing Festival) where citizens and Marines teamed up, underscored the event's role in promoting harmony between the community and the military.

Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok stated that the festival was a model of civil-military-police cooperation, emphasizing that it was a celebration created jointly by the Marine Corps and the citizens. The overwhelming turnout of 60,000 people and the enthusiastic participation in all programs confirm the festival's status as a major cultural event that successfully bridges the gap between the military and the public.
