ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay – Twenty-eight bright young minds from Paraguay are set to travel to the Republic of China (Taiwan) to bolster their expertise in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

During a press conference held yesterday, Wednesday, at the Presidential Palace, Paraguayan government authorities announced a plan to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Taiwan. A key component of this collaboration involves various initiatives aimed at promoting technological development and innovation within Paraguay, including an AI capacity-building program for young Paraguayan talents.

This coming May, the group of 28 Paraguayan youths will journey to Taiwan, a leader in the AI sector, where they will receive in-depth training from local experts.

Meanwhile, Jorge Duarte, President of the Paraguay-Taiwan Technological University (UPTP), also announced plans for the establishment of a technology business incubator within Paraguay. This initiative is a significant part of the digital district development plan being spearheaded by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC).

President Duarte emphasized the vision of Paraguay becoming a central hub for AI development in South America, leveraging Taiwan's technological prowess and support.

Background and Additional Information:

Strengthened Paraguay-Taiwan Cooperation: Paraguay and Taiwan share a long-standing friendly relationship, with ongoing cooperation across various sectors, including economy, technology, and education. This AI training program is expected to further deepen these cooperative ties.

Taiwan's AI Technological Strength: Taiwan boasts a world-class information and communication technology infrastructure and a highly skilled workforce, enabling its rapid growth in the AI field. As a powerhouse in hardware manufacturing, Taiwan particularly excels in AI chip development and application, actively integrating AI technologies into diverse industries.

Technology Business Incubator: The technology business incubator to be established in Paraguay will play a crucial role in supporting startup companies in turning their ideas into reality and fostering their growth. This is anticipated to invigorate Paraguay's technological innovation ecosystem and generate new employment opportunities.
Digital District Development Plan: The Paraguayan government is prioritizing digital technology development as a core driver of the national economy and is pursuing a digital district development plan. This plan encompasses attracting advanced technology companies, supporting research and development, and nurturing talent, with the goal of positioning Paraguay as a digital hub in South America.
Importance of the AI Field: Artificial intelligence, a core technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, is bringing about transformative changes across the economy and society. Securing competitiveness in the AI field is of paramount importance for Paraguay to secure its future growth engine.

This upcoming AI training program in Taiwan for Paraguayan youths is seen as a significant step in strengthening technological cooperation between the two nations and cultivating Paraguay's future AI talent. The progress of Paraguay in potentially taking a leading role in the South American AI sector, leveraging Taiwan's advanced technology and experience, will be closely watched.
