PARMA, Italy — Italian authorities announced on Friday that they have successfully recovered three priceless artworks by French masters Paul Cézanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Henri Matisse. The paintings, which were stolen in a brazen late-night raid back in March, were found during a series of searches ordered by prosecutors in the Parma province. 

The heist, which took place on the night of March 22 at the Magnani Rocca Foundation, had shocked the international art community. Security footage released shortly after the crime showed two masked burglars breaking through a museum window and systematically removing the artworks from the walls. The entire operation was completed in less than three minutes, highlighting the extreme speed and planning of the perpetrators. 

The recovered works include Cézanne’s "Still Life with Cherries," Renoir’s "Fish" (Les Poissons), and Matisse’s "Odalisque on the Terrace." While the total estimated value of the haul reached approximately 9 million euros, art experts emphasize that their cultural significance to the foundation's private collection—established by the late critic Luigi Magnani—is far beyond monetary measurement. 

The investigation, led by the Carabinieri’s specialized Art Recovery Squad, remained tight-lipped regarding the specific location where the paintings were discovered or the details of the recovery operation. However, reports suggest that the investigation is ongoing, with five individuals currently detained and linked to an organized criminal group suspected of numerous high-profile thefts. 

The recovery marks a significant victory for Italian authorities, coming amid a wave of recent museum heists across Europe that have forced institutions to reconsider their security measures. For now, the Magnani Rocca Foundation, often called the "Villa of Masterpieces," can prepare for the return of its stolen treasures, providing a sense of closure to a case that had long puzzled investigators.
