Gyeonggi Province has achieved a remarkable feat by clinching the overall championship title at the 22nd National Winter Games for People with Disabilities, surpassing their initial goal of a runner-up position.

On the final day of the competition, held on February 14th, Gyeonggi Province athletes secured 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals, accumulating a total score of 29,050.6 points. This impressive performance propelled them to the top of the leaderboard, surpassing Seoul (28,806.8 points) and Gangwon (27,697.76 points), who finished in second and third place, respectively.

This victory marks Gyeonggi Province's return to the national summit after five years, reclaiming the title they last won in 2020. The province's success can be attributed to the outstanding performances of several key athletes.

The visually impaired-sighted duo of Bong Hyun-chae and Kim Ga-on continued their dominant run in women's cross-country skiing, securing their fourth gold medal in the 6km freestyle event (B category). Lee Chan-ho, competing in the men's 6km freestyle event (standing category), also clinched his fourth gold medal of the Games.

Jeon Yong-min, competing in the men's 6km freestyle event (DB category), added another gold medal to Gyeonggi Province's tally, marking his second victory of the competition.

In addition to the gold medals, Gyeonggi Province athletes also secured several silver and bronze medals across various events, contributing to their overall victory.

The city of Incheon also participated in the Games, finishing in sixth place overall with a total of 7 medals (1 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze).

The 22nd National Winter Games for People with Disabilities showcased the incredible talent and determination of athletes from across the country. Gyeonggi Province's remarkable performance serves as an inspiration to all, highlighting the power of sports to unite and empower individuals with disabilities.
